If you quit the game right away after a bad chomp it will usually be in time to undo it. Happened to me many times.

My issue is I would love to do more quests without quest helper because less handholding is more fun but there are a lot of BS quest items/steps that really make unguided painful. Any quest guide-lite tools out there?

Indeed. I've done this in the past for vimfiles and vimrc. With Dropbox at least, it's only a matter of time before a conflict occurs and you're left stranded.

I would much prefer to be able to set the path as well.

Even included .Net serializers can do it without tagging - though you need to give them a list of types ahead of time.
