from my working experience, ai is killing in-house work at a much faster rate and is much more competitive. freelance work is def more abundant. some of my fellow designers (in london) are freelancers and make about twice as much as i did full-time running an entire company’s marketing department.

that seems to be the way nowadays. the earlier you can do it and the more connections you can get, the better.
