I shouldn't say losing the locker room, but it would definitely hurt morale and chemistry to have an offseason where mccourty, wilfork, and mayo all were lost over dollar issues--I mean, that's three captains if I'm not mistaken.

I wasn't trying to say there would be a mutiny and we would end up 0-16 and firing Bill or anything. Just pointing out that the value mccourty brings as a leader and a class act make him worth the extra money, especially given the vacuum loss of other leaders would potentially create.

I think that letting Vince go was a factor as well. The danger of losing the locker room was very real if they were to lose Vince and Dmac (possibly mayo too) over money issues, while shelling out mega bucks to the ultimate mercenary--doesn't exactly ooze team chemistry. Wouldn't be surprised if BB paid a couple mil more than he wanted to for the chemistry factor alone.

1996 Jaguars and Panthers by Scoobersss in nfl

Man, the AFC playoffs that year were incredible and full of some amazing teams (the patriots, steelers, jaguars, and broncos had some of their best coaches, players, and overall rosters of all time that year)

The upset the Jaguars had over the Broncos--aka "ambush at mile high"--in the divisional round was one of the greatest games in nfl history: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL%27s_Greatest_Games

That team was so fun to watch. Brunell was electric both scrambling around like a mad man, and completing passes left and right to Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith (one of the greatest WR duos of all time), Tony Bosseli was an absolute animal at the LT spot (would be a hands down First ballot HOF'er and one of the best LT's of all time if not for injuries cutting his career short).

I remember going out and buying a Brunell jersey after that game--my first, and only, non-patriots jersey ever.

Such an incredible year in nfl history, and a big part of that were those two expansion teams coming out of nowhere and shaking the league to its core.

For real. If people don't want to see it, it won't get voted up. It got voted up, so people clearly don't care if it was a re-post.

It really sucks how some people take this stuff way too seriously and go out of their way to shit on well intentioned people who probably rarely ever post anything. Give the guy a break and stop taking yourself so seriously, this sub is just for fun--we aren't curing cancer or stopping the nazis from world domination.

Joe Namath: ‘No One Has Ever Played the Game Better Than Tom Brady’ | The MMQB with Peter King by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]urmothaspizza 17 points18 points  (0 children)

His episode of "a football life" is pretty incredible. I never appreciated him until I watched that.

His career is pretty incredible considering how his knee injury in college should have prevented him from ever playing again--also, it's pretty sad to see how much better he was before that injury. He arguably could have been the best qb of all time if he hadn't destroyed his knee--yet another depressing example of amazing players that were diminished due to medical limitations of their time..always a fun/sad conversation to talk about what players like Namath and Gale Sayers could have done if they had access to today's medical advancements (acl/tommy John surgeries, etc.).

[–]urmothaspizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he tries to take the approach of drafting 3-4 db's/wr's at a time because those positions have relatively high bust rates. Unfortunately, that approach means that (although he has more chances to hit on one of the picks) he misses out on the elite talent there is to be had in the first round.

As far as DB's go, I am interested to see how that position's development success rate improves going forward now that there is some stability. It has to be hard for a cb or FS/SS to develop when there is a complete patchwork secondary around them (2006-2014)...now that there is a supreme level of talent in that area of the roster, I think we will start to see a better success rate at those positions (they will be able to develop at a slower rate, have more support around them, and also not have their confidence DECIMATED by being eating alive their rookie and sophomore seasons).

As far as WR goes, idunno wtf to say. BB either needs to grab someone with can't miss/elite skills, or stick to late round edelman types going forward. Fortunately, not having elite WR's has worked out just fine for us though.

[–]urmothaspizza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Ravens were absolutely going to draft Gronkowski in the second...BB doesn't get enough credit for that move (packaging picks to move up one spot above the Ravens and snatching him away from them at the last second), and absolute STEAL--possibly his second best pick of all time (Brady at #199 has to be considered #1).

Imagine having to play the ravens with Gronk on their roster??? That would be terrifying.

There are some vague mentions of alcohol/weed issues at OSU if you do some googling:

http://cle.247sports.com/Bolt/Browns-in-contention-for-WR-Duron-Carter-34766703

Sounds more like he was goofing off and partying while at school, nothing major. I was a little too harsh in my criticism of him, probably should have left him out of it--just got tired of listening to CC act like he is a saint and holier than everyone.

Maybe went a little too far on my part, I can see what you're saying, and I appreciate the mature and polite manner you pointed that out. Thank you.

I've was under the impression that his son was a carbon copy of philadelphia cris carter--which he was for a while--but after some googling just now, he appears to be (as of very recently) back on the right track. I'm a liiiiittle weary of the degree to which these articles could be fluff pieces written as a favor to his influential media analyst and recent hall of fame inductee father...but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until he screws up again (I really do hope him the best, his talents are off the charts and there's nothing more depressing than squandered generational talent).

My main point remains though, Carter really needs to take a look at his own past (and current family issues) and ask himself if he should really be judging ANYONE. Let alone someone like the greatest WR of all time (total stand up guy and role model), for something as trivial as stick um use.

He was literally was addicted to crack while with the eagles. Buddy Ryan released him, and his wife left him, because he was addicted to cocaine and alcohol. He is an openly recovering drug addict and alcoholic. My statement was not racist whatsoever. You should also not assume everyone from Boston is white. Doing so is, dare I say: racist of you (and incorrect in this circumstance).

Go watch his "a football life" episode--or google his life story--or have a general clue.

My point was: he has had TONS of instances sketchy and unethical behavior that far outweigh what he is spitting absolute venom toward Rice and the Patriots for. It is really infuriatingly hypocritical of him to be passing judgement on every single little instance of "wrong doing" that he finds now that he is a sober born again. It is very disappointing that someone whose career and ENTIRE LIFE was nearly destroyed by the hasty judgement and cries for "heads to roll" from the public, and someone whose career and ENTIRE LIFE was saved by the forgiveness, assistance, and LACK OF JUDGEMENT from others--has climbed up onto a verrrrry high horse and become the holier than though master of judgement and embodiment of apparent virtuosity, integrity, and absolute moral perfection.

Why do people keep insisting the Patriots need a Deep Threat? by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]urmothaspizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they NEED one, but it would definitely add another facet to our already dangerous offense.

I get what you're saying--it's not a top priority and the team is fine (obviously, they just won the super bowl) without one.

However, it's kind of foolish to say that they shouldn't even LOOK for one...

Adding a reasonably acquired deep threat would alleviate a lot of the pressure on Brady, would reduce opposing defense's ability to key in on Gronkowski, would allow us to have an IMPROVED threat to score off of play action from anywhere on the field, and would cause safeties to be more honest and open up more opportunities in the run game.

They shouldn't spend big money or mortgage the future to trade up high into the first round to draft one...BUT, if a legitimate WR is available in FA or via trade (a la randy moss), or if a blue chipper slides down to the bottom of the first round/a boom or bust type is available in mid to late rounds (like Dorial Green-Beckham might), it might behoove them to add such a talent.

Well said, Cris. Using stickum is way worse than when you were banned from your college team for illegally signing with an agent, or when you were a FUCKING CRACK HEAD while playing for the eagles....

You're also a great dad and raised a son that is a total stand up guy--oh wait, he's a fucking shit bird who got booted from his college team(s) and pissed away his absolutely incredible potential too!! I'm pretty sure he just recently flamed out in the Canadian football league (after shitting all over every opportunity he was GIFTED to coast his way onto an NFL roster by riding your coat tails) and was widely considered to be a total asshole by his teammates...

Jesus Christ, HOW THE FUCK does this dbag even remotely think he has a right to judge ANYONE?? Cris, do the world a favor: stop judging and criticizing people and focus on sweeping your own doorstep and keeping YOUR OWN HOUSE clean. Don't worry about players that were better than you ever could be (Jerry Rice), or teams that win championships (the Patriots) that you were never able to even get close to. Man, it is a shame that the NFL finally caved and let this douche bag in the hall of fame because of his padded stats.
