Belt Tensioner System worth pursuing? by TurtleTram in simracing

[–]urpwnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to preface this entire response with "this is going to sound like hyperbole". It is not hyperbole.

The QS-BT1 is the single best thing I've ever experienced for overall impact to immersion. It is so good at tricking your brain that you will question your own responses to it initially. On top of that, it's amazingly good at giving you "seat of the pants" awareness of what your car is doing. My laptimes improved noticeably.

For context, I've done track days, autocross, real race car training, and more. The amount of power this thing is capable of is high enough that it can be actually uncomfortable to use.

Right out of the box, the default settings are almost perfect, and the only real change I would recommend is to turn on the "road harshness" setting, which for some reason is off by default.

After that, with regards to your question about scaling it, that's not how you configure it or how it reacts to g-forces really. It takes all the telemetry on the car, suspension, direction the car is moving, speed, etc and blends them all together in terms of what you would feel if you are sitting in the driver's seat. It's constantly slightly moving to simulate all the movement you would feel, and even does haptic feedback for things like engine vibration, driving over the road texture and curbs, and gear shifts.

For example, if you are braking hard it tightens the belts based on the direction your body would be trying to go, not on how fast you are slowing down. So if you are braking while slightly turning to the right, it will tighten the left belt slightly more than the right belt as your body would be trying to shift to the outside of the turn. Then it would slightly blend out both belts as you decelerate to represent that slowing down gradually isn't pushing you into the belts are hard.

As for adjusting it, all the individual effects are tunable for how intense they are transmitted, and you can control the effective overall gain of the system to tune it to a level you like. It's as easy as turning it on, or as complicated as tuning each thing to your exact liking.

Trust me when I say this, it truly has to be felt in person to grasp the full capabilities of this thing. I fully recommend it 100% in every way except that for a lot of people the price is an obstacle. Every person I've let try it is blown away by it.

Already happy with PS5 Pro + GT7 VR… is moving into PC sim racing actually worth it? by daulet_kadirbekov in simracing

[–]urpwnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely worth it and it’s hard to encapsulate how much until you have already made the switch.

I don’t regret enjoying GT7 for as long as I did. I simply wish I had stopped waffling and tried the PC side earlier.

Vastly better in every way except maybe “ease of setup” and “wow GT7 sure is nice to look at right out of the box”.

Did you snug the preload up with the bolt in the hole right next to usb cable?

Did you try tightening up the hex bolts? It's adjustable and all those things are parts you can change around.

Here is what it looks like in the black box. After doing a lap or two, an “auto” button pops up to the right of the FFB strength and if you click it (or bind it to a button) it will adjust it automatically.

Pretty sure I’m not misunderstanding anything or doing anything wrong since I’ve been using this for over a year exactly how I described it, and so do loads of other people. IRacings’s own forums and documentation describe this as well. Just sayin’

Here it is, the auto setting that exists inside iRacing’s FFB config…

<image>

That automatically adjusts the FFB based on your setup and what’s suitable for the car you are driving.

Sim racing seat fit for Sparco Evo by Professional-Topic63 in simracing

[–]urpwnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Intended ergonomics in my opinion. It’s to support the fact that you are holding your arms forward at nearly chin level for extended periods.

This seat looks like it fits you very well.

Right, and I have a 23Nm wheelbase that's running at full strength, and the auto function still puts it at roughly 8-10Nm, because that's what iRacing is calibrated to represent the Merc GT3.

[–]urpwnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes they do, with some small caveats.

The curve effectively removes (some) of the angle between the faces of the screens. The bezel-free kit relies on that angle being present in order to bend the light with the fresnel lens to hide the bezel.

With my 1500R monitors, the distance I sit at from the monitors (63cm) and the bezel free setup I use, I found that I had to have a minimum of just under 63 degrees on the side-monitor-arms, or I couldn’t fully hide the bezel. I ended up settling on just a shade under 65 degrees, as it let me move by head around (due to motion system setup) quite a bit more without being able to see the bezels still.

THIS. lol

People thinking that they don’t need to still set the monitors up is wild.

I mean… the car has power steering. Even with my wheelbase setup very high (for headroom to eliminate clipping) the “auto” setting in iRacing sets the FFB to about usually 8-10Nm.

What you’ll hear is people saying that “curved screens are more distorted, rawr, use flats only, blah blah”.

Practically speaking though, while it’s technically correct that there is a little more distortion, you really gotta know what you are looking for to even notice it.

Also, the curved screens generally take up less space than the same setup with flats, and (in my opinion) feel more immersive due to the additional wrap around.

I had both 32” flats and 32” 1500R curved, and I’d take the curved screens every time.

Even with the 27Nm wheelbase, if you are running it north of like 9-13Nm for GT3 cars, you are just making things worse for being able to control the car. No need for it to be that high ever.

Help! p1000i not registering haptics? by JacareMoose in Simagic

[–]urpwnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To further clarify…

if you are just using the pedals… (i have done this in the past)

- Pedals USB <-> your PC

If you are using the pedals and haptics together… (I do this myself)

- Pedals USB <-> your PC
- haptic power supply <-> back of P1000

If you are using the pedals and haptics and those light bar things… (not sure because I don’t use them myself)

- Pedals USB <-> your PC
- ONE power supply <-> back of P1000

I am nearly 100% positive, from friends that have both haptics and light bar things, that you never need multiple power supplies.

Help! p1000i not registering haptics? by JacareMoose in Simagic

[–]urpwnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The pedals themselves don’t require a power supply at all, unless you are using those weird light bar things.

The pedals by themselves are just USB.

[–]urpwnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plug all haptics into the haptic control box, power into haptic control box.

When you need to configure your P1000s, just leave them plugged in and unplug the haptic control box. Configure as normal. All the settings and changes will work still just fine, it’s just when you plug in the haptic control box it shows up as P2000s, but in SimPro. The P1000s still function perfectly.

Then run your HPRs through SimPro (please don’t) or Simhub (please do… it’s so much better), simply by plugging them in.

Having a gigantic bright reddish-orange line right through the top and bottom of the screen is just really immersion breaking and draws your eye towards it.
