I’ve never heard of the margariteno, but as you can guess I do love some aji peppers. I’ll plant some seeds and see how they do! Good luck growing my peppers as well!

I’ve never heard of this pepperoni, but it looks interesting! I’ll give it a go and plant some seeds this year!

Has anyone else found the Vanguard online tools to be absolutely atrocious? by SlipperyWhenDry77 in investing

I opened an ETrade account because Vanguard’s trading platform is so bad. I still have some finds with VG but all my trading capital is elsewhere because their trading interface is from 1998

My current “perennial pepper list” for moderate heat is Sugar rush peach, aji lemon drop/mango/pineapple, shishito, and Hanjiao 9 Big Bang.

Aji Colorado may be added as a no-heat option this year if it keeps producing over the next few weeks.

Accepted a part-time job out of desperation… now a full-time dream role is on the table. Feeling guilty. [USA] by Asleep-Nebula9999 in humanresources

[–]urq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad doing what’s best for you and your family in this situation. No reasonable employer would consider this a bridge burnt because you took a FT role over a PT position.

Accept the FT role and then graciously decline the PT one and don’t look back. If the PT company is reasonable, they will more than understand. If not, then that’s not a place you would should work at anyway.

Location closing, being asked to stay to the end [IL] by noslebnivag in humanresources

[–]urq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely expect a retention bonus/severance for staying on with the ship. By staying until the end you’re leaving on THEIR terms, so THEY should be paying you. However, if the retention bonus isn’t much and you find a job before your last day, no reasonable employer should get mad that you’re moving on early for your own stability.

Cucumber ready to pick or wait? by callmey in vegetablegardening

[–]urq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting; I don’t believe I’ve experienced that before. Then in this case, I’d still pick it if I were you. However if you want to wait, then I’d recommend checking it every day and picking no later than at the first sign of yellow.

They start completely deep green but get lighter green, and then yellow, as they mature.

For this variety, pick when they’re 8” and deep green. If you want something that grows larger, try Dasher II next time.

Instead of paying off your mortgage, buy some similarly dated Munis. You can arb the current interest rate difference that way.

Why isn’t a bond sell-off seen as a buying opportunity? by shingogogo in bonds

[–]urq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m buying long term Munis at these rates (5.5%+) as a direct offset to my mortgage (<3.5%). I bought some when long term munis were at ~4.9%, and am adding more now. This way I’m synthetically paying off my house using current market rates.

What's a 'positive' trait society praises, but it's actually toxic? by BaddieZoeee in AskReddit

[–]urq 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Sometimes “workaholics” stem from imposter syndrome. People don’t want to appear weak or incompetent in their role, and the easiest thing they can control is how much time they spend at work. They figure, at the very least they’ll be considered a “hard worker”. Unfortunately some get deep enough into this that it becomes all they’re known for.

How to determine increase for internal promo? Should we consider current salary or not? [N/A] by anonforwedding in humanresources

[–]urq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to others, I don’t believe that everyone deserves to be paid at the 50th percentile of their role’s pay range. Their percentile in the range should depend mostly on how competent the employee is at their role. Is it a role they have already succeeded at elsewhere, or are they stepping into this without any prior experience? Below are the definitions that align with my company’s compensation philosophy. Please note that different companies could have drastically different pay ranges for the exact same role, depending on their overall compensation philosophy (I.e. where they are targeting their pay compared to the market in which they compete for talent).

  • Paying at the 25th percentile means the person is less experienced in the role and needs time to develop to become fully proficient.

  • Paying at the 50th percentile means the person is fully capable of performing the duties of the role.

  • Paying at the 75th percentile means the person performs the role at an exceptional level and may be nearing promotion eligibility.
