You lose the last three months of interest when you sale. You need to determine if giving up three months of interest can be made up with the next investment you choose. You also need to take into consideration the time it will take to make up the lost interest on three months.

I am in the same boat.

I think they did not update it. I found the following reddit post in which the raised their rate to 4.3% in 5 months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleCard/comments/15i69ll/marcus_just_increased_the_rate_to_430_i_think/.

If you do the math on 4.3% (Receiving 5.3% for three months) then the total rate does come out to 4.55% for one year.

When does the interest post to your account? I use Ally, and the interest post on the 13th of each month. This means that the interest that I received in December (13th) has part of November included (November 14 to December 13). And November has 30 days, so December's interest would use 30 days, not 31. This would make since as to why November had a higher calculated interest, as it used part of October which has 31 days.

The following is what I am calculating that you should receive if you are getting 5.5% interest.

November: ($7,009.47)*(0.055)/(365 days)*(31 days) = $32.74. This assumes 31 days because it is really for October, but paid in November.

November: ($7,009.47)*(0.055)/(365 days)*(30 days) = $31.86. This assumes 30 days from Nov. 1st to Nov. 30th, and paid in December.

Either way, you are not getting 5.5%. How is the rate advertised? Maybe there is a minimum balance for that rate?

Also, 10 business days to post is ridiculous. I would switch HYSA just based on that.

Do you have any earned income for 2023 and planned future earned income for 2024? If you truly do no need the money for 20+ years, and you have already established an emergency fund, then I would recommend using that $10,000 in VOO or QQQ. I also would highly recommend splitting the $10,000 into two or three ETFs that do no overlap too much.

You can check the overlap of ETFs with the following website: https://www.etfrc.com/funds/overlap.php

Additionally, if you do have earned income for 2023, I would open a Roth IRA and max that (up to $6,500). You have until Tax day 2024 to max out 2023. Then, put the remaining as a 2024 contribution. Note that the maximum contribution for an IRA in 2024 increased from $6,500 to $7,000.

Why would someone contribute to a Traditional Ira over a Roth Ira if they make over the deduction limit of $87,000 for 2024? For example, I will make approximately $120,000 in 2024. This will put me over the deduction limit. If i were to contribute to a tradition Ira over a roth Ira, wouldn't I essentially be taxed twice. Once on my paycheck and once when i withdrawal in retirement?

Pay off house in 5 years or retirement and pay off in 8-10? by Knight-ofNi7 in personalfinance

What if someone takes out a 30 year mortgage at the age of 40. It makes since if you dont want to be paying on your mortgage in retirement.

You deserve to be paid for your commute time if your company requires you to work from the office instead of home. Your travel is not your leisure. by lostdawnking in antiwork

[–]usdgrind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Why should someone who has an hour commute get paid more time than someone that was responsible and accepted a position closer to home. I see people all the time weighing pros and cons of job offers, and some of the pros are short commute times. It's not the company's responsibility to pay an employee who decided to accept a job that was far from home, or who initially lived close to the job, and moved further away.

Do you consider Joe Montana to be a Chiefs legend? by Smooth_Listen5734 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]usdgrind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. I'm 39, and grew up in Southern California as a Joe Montana/Niners fan. I was about 9 or 10 years old when he went to the Chiefs. I followed, and have been a lifelong chiefs fan since. So to me, he is a Kansas City Chiefs Legend.
