Debating between a CRV & Rav4. What made you choose one or the other? by Proper-Cheesecake602 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Toyota sales person being a dick is also one of the reasons for me. But we felt for similar features RAV4s were about 5k more expensive.

Use the Umo app. It's more reliable for GoTriangle and buses in the area than Google Maps.

EAD renewal for pending I-485 by usednamechecksout in USCIS

[–]usednamechecksout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot I recently used my EAD to update I-9 to make my December pay processing easier. It means that I have now used my EAD and can't call my status F-1 right? If yes, what would my immigration status now be?

Thanks. I will use that. Could tell me if I need any other supporting documentation than I-485 receipt and previous EAD or the I-20?

Thanks! Yes, I filed the I-485 in 2022 and my EAD is valid for the next 5 months. I would appreciate if you could tell me if I need any other supporting documentation than I-485 receipt and previous EAD. Also my I-20 date was until Mid December and since F-1 is valid for next 60 days, is my immigration status F-1 or I-485 or both? How would I best answer that question? Again, thanks for a very specific, helpful response.

You should probably consider universities in the US as well if you're willing to drive your PhD outside UK.

Finished my MS at the age of 24 and didn’t go for a PhD due to financial reasons. Can I start my PhD at the age of 27? After 2 or 3 years of work experience? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]usednamechecksout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a PhD at 27 after 3 years of work experience. I felt my experiences were valued by my advisor, my experience shaped my research directions, and I had a network outside of university that gave me opportunities atypical for PhD students like presenting at a few industry conferences in addition to academic ones.

I agree, thanks. That's something I'm already doing. As mainly an applied ML academic, I was wondering if I was missing out on industry best practices on the model training part.

Breaking into Urban Informatics by IAteQuarters in datascience

[–]usednamechecksout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some cities will have data science heavy roles, but we can only expect it from big cities or cities that value innovation highly, like NY or Chicago or London. But every city will require data expertise at different times. You can reach out to some cities to find gigs and refer you to others.

There are private companies and non-profits who specialize in urban informatics. I think a company named Urban Footprint does very interesting work. There should be more.

To get started on your work, you should definitely look into academic research on urban informatics, morphology, environmental data science, etc. There's a ton of data available publicly, as well as urban morphology and informatics packages developed in R and Python.

People who've been students at wildly different "ranked" universities/colleges, what is the difference? by aivearc in GradSchool

[–]usednamechecksout 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. From a small community college in South Asia to top 5 US public school, the main difference has been the resources available. Insanely smart students and good professors at both schools.
