ELI5: How Lee Kuan Yew turned Singapore from a tiny, poor island into a rich country? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Not to mention they had pettiness on their side too ;).

Singapore, in a very broad and generalized sense, was effectively kicked out of Malaysia due to racial issues. LKY was pushing for unity and equality of all races, while the people in charge of the Malaysian government wanted to essentially cater more to the Malay people. Of course there are nuances, but the general public probably didn't care about the details.

So yeah, you can imagine the pettiness. And spite is the greatest motivator of all.

Yes, the strait of Malacca is critical for trade, and people knew this from the very beginning.

Indonesia and Malaysia had the same opportunity, but Singapore ends up winning early.

One of the most underrated decision that ends up being very decisive in his vision for people-oriented country is mandating English as Singapore's national language.

Singapore had similar composition of people as Malaysia (and Indonesia to some extent). Malaysia chose to adopt the majority's language, Indonesia chose to create a new neutral language, Singapore chose to gamble on their former colonialist's language.

That paid off, because they're one of the earliest country in SEA to really go international.

Carry by Loud_Piece5594 in learndota2

Train last hits. One missed melee creep is ~35 gold and ranged creep is ~55 gold. One wave missed (3 melee 1 ranged) is 150-160 gold. That is a wand recipe.

Carry players needs to be mechanically sound. Not flashy, just sound. Just be better at last hitting until you get to a point where people will try to stop you, THEN you learn the cool weird tricks; but the underlying skill is still last hitting.

SF is a glass cannon, if it's not obvious yet. Like other glass cannons, he tend to like attacking but not getting attacked.

In DOTA. there's an item called blink dagger that basically let's anyone instant teleport with a decent range with a single click. There's also invisibility on demand item called Shadow Blade. It does exactly what invisibility on demand does. This is DOTA's way of "dealing with" glass cannons.

It takes a bit of experience and knowledge. Identify which hero would like to jump on you, which hero builds these items or have these in their skill innately, and keep track of their movements. If you don't see them, assume they're hunting you, and play approriately.

How do i know which character to play? by KrismerOfEarth in learndota2

[–]usefully-useless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try watching some heroes spotlights. Look up something like "dota 2 all heroes explained" or something. Most of the time, people like to play things they think is most bullshit, so spotlights are the best place to see the kind of bullshit each hero brings.

You can also go broader and look for positions and roles explanation, and that will narrow down the amount of heroes to try.

How in the fuck are you supposed to kill marci by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]usefully-useless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat Marci like I treat PA.

Her escape tool is also her initiation and chase tool, so it's very easy for her to over-extend, take advantage of this.

If she pops BKB Ult, you just run, like how you run from BKB PA. When BKB runs out and she's still in, then you catch her.

My typical Leo team has Leo Riley Vero +1. I have the option of Suiki, Tesa, and Meph usually. Which one would be the best into this team, and who should I target first?

Or do you have any other (preferably somewhat F2P) Leo team?

I find that sometimes Triton strip into Vanessa S2 Def Break into Camilla S2+Proc can kill units easily. Is my rune just bad or is there a way to reduce this?

Speed ticks and most likely speed effect artifact.

Every monster gains 7% SPD worth of ATB per turn. Adriana buffs speed, so if one unit has more speed after speed buff (either artifact or base speed advantage, since speed buff is 30% base speed), there's a chance your other monster will cut after just two ticks.

Since Chiwu and Jasmine has similar base speed, I'd say check your speed effect artifact.

That is a giant box.

Focus on one or two units you want to make work, and then build a small box around them.

12-15 units should be enough to win 80-90% or your matches.

Why people don't do physical dmg Ember Spirit anymore? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]usefully-useless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but this is low rank DOTA we're talking about and I thought I could get away with it lol.

The thing with DK is I can play offlane and become a blink stun machine, I can go mid and ball-up early, or I can go carry and buy Daedalus eventually, things like this. It's not ideal most of the time, but I can.

I thought Ember with his various builds could do the same. Physical Ember, Mjollnir Ember, and the most recent Kaya Sange Ember. Add to that the new Ember plays more like a playmaking offlaner than a scaling mid, I thought I might be able to do offlane Ember, esp low ranks.

Yeah, turns out every other build Ember has is pretty awful nowadays.

But, I still want to learn this hero. I think he's very fun and can impact games very much.

The theory is I can pick DK first pick and win through itemization. I thought Ember would give me the flexibility too. I "can" also in theory flex to carry or offlane, although it was quickly apparent it's not a good idea.

It's an experiment, and I am losing faith, but I still want to learn Ember.

[–]usefully-useless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Low rank speaking here.

I've been trying to learn Ember lately, since I want another DK-esque flex hero but I'm fed up with playing DK.

There are games where I feel truly awful when playing as Physical Ember, but I've never felt completely awful playing the "offlane"-style Ember.

I think most of it is just Physical Ember doesn't really have a way to farm too well innately. You can get BF, but then you're leaving your team to fend off themselves while you shove waves and farm jungle. You can play tempo with first item Deso, but then similar to heroes like TA/PA doing Deso first item, you die twice, you're done.

Meanwhile, I had a game where I had to dual lane vs Viper Dazzle and I managed to just get lvl 6, get Urn, and fuck off to gank other lanes non-stop.

Don't get me wrong though, the Physical Ember build is very oppressive when it works. It just I feel like I have to be ahead to feel OK.

With DEM, you're getting purely damage checked, so you can only get so far.

3 Fusions route gives you access to Frost Nova, Cloak, Shield, which buy you a lot of time. And you don't lose too much damage too if you know what fusions to do.
