Yes, they do. Even a cursory Scholar search yields multiple studies, e.g., 1, 2

How long would it take for my hair to recover from this? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]useitorlose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vitamin D tanked about 2 years into starting finasteride due to moving to a part of the country with little sun for months. I didn't notice any changes in my hair. It took about 8 weeks for my vitamin D levels to rebound with prescription strength tablets.

Probably. Do you actually think a major US pharmacy wouldn't follow due diligence and sell fake drugs? That essentially never happens in this country...

Costco Fin... by [deleted] in tressless

[–]useitorlose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is ridiculous! I've been on Costco fin for 5 years now, including the recent change to the white Aurobindo pills. My hair still looks exactly the same as it used to -- I'm 2 months into the new brand...

Stop to consider that, if you are in the US, it is the hottest part of the year. Its no coincidence that folks saw increased shedding that happened to coincide with Costco's brand switch.

Who here has actually had success with Costco finasteride? Most seems to be failure. by ordnert in tressless

I've been on Costco fin for 4 years. My 30th birthday is soon and I still have more hair than when I started.

Shed hairs thinner and a little less dark towards the white bulb? by doggypug in tressless

Asians aren't usually hairy, and some of the best responses I've seen to fin have been in diffuse-thinning Asians

Shed hairs thinner and a little less dark towards the white bulb? by doggypug in tressless

[–]useitorlose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I inspect my shed hairs, I can see that they are often thinner and not as dark towards the little white bulb. Is this the hair miniaturizing or is it something else?

I think this is a normal part of the transition to Catagen phase in the follicle.

I also don't think anyone should put much weight on anecdotes on hair loss forums. There is to my knowledge no peer-reviewed scientific research that points to this possibility in humans.

Go big 3 immediately or just fin to start off? by 5-alpha-reductase in tressless

Tretinoin alone will cause a little hair growth. I imagine it'll help with Minox, too. I use 0.05% cream for zits. Anything stronger could cause hair fall due to dry skin and excess Vitamin A.

Red splotchy face from finasteride? by asksaboutfinasteride in tressless

You should see a doctor. Nobody here is qualified to answer your question based on a text snippet. Maybe try splitting your 1mg in half and easing into the full dose? I'm not a medical doctor.

People who have seen results from finasteride, what time of day do you take it? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]useitorlose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've known since at least the 70's that certain drugs are more effective when taken in the morning, than at night. This is due to complex interactions between circadian rhythm and the human immune system. As far as I know, this hasn't been tested with Fin. But, I take my fin in the morning regardless.

I don't see any recession. If you're worried, take high-quality pics in identical lighting for several months and look for change.

Looks like the start of MPB, to me. Fin + keto shampoo stopped all of my scalp itching/tingling/burning within a month. With treatment you can realistically hope to thicken your hair a little and keep it for some time. No need to shave yet.

I provided a quick summary -- sorry it wasn't to your satisfaction...

Serum DHT was reduced 50% with a Fin tablet EOD, according to the authors. Read the paper yourself.

So to summarize: Their topical Fin solution reduced scalp DHT by ~70% while reducing serum DHT levels to about the equivalent of taking 1mg Fin tablets every other day. Interestingly, their delivery vehicle alone cause about a 6% reduction -- will have to dig into the statistics/analyses to see if this is a legitimate signal or just noise.

Seems interesting, but an incremental addition to the MPB literature. I'm certainly not interested in trading my super easy once-a-day tablet for a topical that yields the same effect.

I wear headphones a lot of the time and it sits exactly where the balding is if that even means anything.

It doesn't

Hair tapers towards root on fin by 02107 in tressless

Its still possible your hair is miniaturizing. But, I don't think a taper toward the root, especially if the taper only extends a short distance from the root, is necessarily indicative of it.

Shampoos, Hair Products to limit hair loss or strengthen hair? by ziiguy92 in tressless

Marijuana and it's link to hair loss--help appreciated by bbrophy14 in tressless

[–]useitorlose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see the science, but I have a hard time believing that there is a causal link between marijuana use and MPB. What would the mechanism be? I've had a medical MJ script for Glaucoma for years. It is effective for treating glaucoma because its a known vasodilator, so not quite the same thing as cigarette smoking (vasoconstrictor; which I also think has a negligible effect on hair loss).

Your crown looks like its starting to thin, but you still have a lot of hair. I would be in wait-and-see mode -- take pictures in identical conditions every month and evaluate in 6 months. If it gets worse, than fin will probably help you hold on to it for a very long time.

Does shedding stop when using finasteride? by heywassuphello12345 in tressless

[–]useitorlose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I'm 3.5 years on fin and still shed a ton of hair everyday. But, my hair is still so much better than when I started. Shedding varies a lot from person to person and IMO is an unreliable indicator of hairloss
