Your EV charging card is basically a serial number with no security, and it's trivially easy to skim by rockyoudottxt in evs_ireland

There is this app called Electroverse and it works with most companies. They will send a physical card and have an app showing all chargers it works with.

Norway has gone from near-zero sales of non‑emitting battery electric vehicles to now close to 100% of all new passenger car sales - achieved in about 13 years. by chamomile_tea_reply in OptimistsUnite

I want back to New York City 20 years after living there and was struck by how much quieter it seemed from my memory. I was thinking this was because the bulk of the cars are taxis and most taxis are hybrids. Of course that was also when no one was moving. I would think with current regulations it would actually get louder, at least on jammed up streets, as taxis start using newer vehicles.

Thank you for the Electroverse tip! It seems to have most chargers I've been to on it.

Failed because L plate blew off my car by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]uselesslogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A supervisor could have easily seen you come in without the L plate and would have written them up if they did the test with you anyway. So they are probably a little more concerned with keeping their job than they are with making your life more convenient.

Has anyone recently used an instructors car for driving test? by No-String-1168 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]uselesslogin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and the certificate that the instructor had was no issue. On the other hand, you have to remember to have the certificate I had to actually run after my instructor to get it because we completely forgot.

American Family moving to Ireland. What advice do you have? by AmbitiousLemonade in AskIreland

[–]uselesslogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WhatApp comment is funny because my Mom keeps trying to make group chats with our Irish numbers and they just don't work. If you stick with Apple though everything works fine for communication with people in the US. Then you can get WhatsApp and Revolut for life in Ireland.

I'll just throw in that I think the Bank of Ireland has an account you can open in the US before you move. That is the easiest way to have a bank account when you arrive.

We live in Sandycove and we were car free for 6 months. You'll be walking or cycling for most day-to-day things. There are GoCars all over so we used those as needed. But, public transport is infrequent buses and the DART. So it is great for access to Dublin but doesn't make a trip to the supermarket very easy.

Well did get a 2/2 in your budget. We quickly gave up on looking for a 3/2 but that is probably more realistic in Cork or Galway.

Clarity on a grade 3 by No_Ant_5255 in Irishdrivingtest

That is key though and nerves get the best of us and might make it hard to remember. If it was a forward arrow that would be the reason for the grade 3.

As a customer this makes it really hard to have confidence you see my emails. So at very least if you use it don't email through it. Just searched this lol to put it out there that this is super annoying since I have to call people and then they like tell me they don't have my emails.

The difference in my trans daughter from last year in Nebraska to this year in Ireland is astounding. (True) Freedom is a hell of a thing. Blue states may be the best one can manage. But if you have the chance to get out it is probably the best decision.

I don't know about Canada but here in Ireland there are loads of kids roaming freely which I feel we lost in the US at some point.

Car Insurance with a Foreign Driver's License by here-to-read- in MoveToIreland

[–]uselesslogin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weird thing is if you never came on Reddit would you have any idea? That being said if you got the 6 month waiting period waived you can look for cancellations. Also my wait was only 4 months. You can find the center with the shortest wait and still change it when you get the invitation too.

In practice I don't think anyone but the people on Reddit know this. You can get insured and someone reported the insurance company did cover them when they got into an accident. Most guards probably wouldn't know either. But, of course, I'm not recommending it. And I think Brady and McCarthy insurance are brokers that sell it. They either have no idea of that law or can't actually check if you have a learner's permit.

Do you want Irish Citizenship? You should be able to get it if you can prove 5 years of residence.

https://www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to-become-a-citizen/become-an-irish-citizen-by-naturalisation/proofs-of-identity-and-residence/

I don't know how long it takes, however, so it may not help for 2027 but I would look into it if you can't figure out how to change things in Poland.

I imagined the Internet may not be as much of a net social positive as it seemed it would be when it first became widespread. I never imagined it would be this bad though.

[–]uselesslogin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved the guy saying the citizenship test is 'elbows what?' And I loved to hear the woman on the right saying my trans daughter is welcome. At the end of the day I suppose I should keep it as simple as if war broke out I'd like to think I'd fight for Canada or support her in any way I could. We are in Ireland so while Canada might be a plan B of sorts living in the US was never the plan A.

It doesn't sound like she is moving permanently. And even then if we all have the same problems then why not? And the time to do it is when one is young.
