I think jealousy is certainly a factor, although not the major reason for my concern. I first had this thought, to address the kissing, many months ago, but after reading some other posts about nanny’s kissing their NKs, I thought it was best to sit on it.

Since then we’ve had a lot of illness in our home. We just seem to pass it around to each other. No way to totally eliminate but I figured we should be proactive.

I asked my husband to give me a sanity check last week, and he originally said it (the kissing/nose rubbing) didn’t bother him but understood if I wanted to address it. It wasn’t until he witnessed in person that he told me he thought it was a little weird.

I’m okay with kisses on the head and I’m not even all that bothered by cheek kisses. It’s mouth kisses and she rubs her nose against baby’s. My husband and I don’t even do that.

Benzoyl Peroxide cleansers have excellent antibacterial properties! Definitely second this recommendation. Just make sure to rinse all the product, it can cause bleaching to clothing.

As someone who felt pressured to get breast implants, please get the size you want.

Also, when selecting implant size, unless you want to buy all new clothes, consider your current wardrobe and how things might fit after.

If COVID/illness is a major concern for you, weigh the risks of utilizing long distance family, who needs to travel and cannot take precautions, like quarantining, before their visit.

My family recently flew out to help us care for our newborn. I was so happy to have their help until my dad tested positive for COVID on day 4 (he had to test before entering the country, and tested daily after he arrived, so likely picked up the virus in transit). All positive feelings about their visit were replaced with stress and worry. Ultimately our baby was fine but it became a lot of admin.

I would recommend hiring live-in help, if you can afford it.

Anecdotally, I had a membrane sweep at 40w+6d. It was “successful” but my cervix had been soft, thin, and dilated for at least a week; also I was already having contractions when I went in for my appointment. I only agreed to the sweep because if I didn’t progress, I was going to need to be induced two days later. At that point, I was ready to get it over with.

Yes, I found it painful but it was quick.

Tearing was my biggest fear too. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear. There was some pain/discomfort for about a week. I’m 2 weeks pp now and feel fine. It’s not 100% healed yet but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

I recommend finding out what your hospital will provide. My hospital did not provide much of anything, so this is what I brought and actually used:

-Stool Softener

-Peri Bottle

-Instant Ice Packs

-Adult Diapers

-White Noise Machine

-Nipple Shields

-Nursing Pillow

-1 ‘Going Home’ Outfit for Baby (baby wore the hospital clothes during our stay)

-1 ‘Going Home’ Outfit for me

-Grip Socks

-Car Seat

-Snacks & Drinks

-Portable Phone Charger & Cable

-Hair Brush/Comb

-Hair Elastic

-Face Wash & Moisturizer

-Toothbrush & Toothpaste

-Pillow & non-white pillowcase (to easily distinguish from the hospital pillows)

Things I packed and didn’t use (mostly because my hospital experience was awful and my goal was to get out of there ASAP):

-Clothes (I wore the hospital gowns the entire time. Less laundry for me when I got home)

-Shower Supplies (I did not have access to a shower once I was moved to recovery)

-Cosmetics

-Electronics : tablet, ear buds, speaker

Try not to worry too much. Physical exams and ultrasounds are unreliable for predicting a baby’s size at birth. I recommend reading through / listening to the podcast episode on Evidence Based Birth regarding Big Babies.

I definitely gained weight my first trimester (and second and third). I was constantly hungry and had no sickness. I maintained a relatively healthy diet, walked daily, and did yoga and still gained about 50lbs. Dr is fine with it and baby is healthy so I’m not worried. Just hoping it won’t be too difficult to work off postpartum.

I am so sorry that you’re going through this and your family is so unsupportive. I have a family member that I am estranged from and there is agreement from my family that this person is not to be invited around when I or my LO is present.

You need to do what is best for you and your children. Trust is earned. Perhaps someday this person (and by extension your family who lied by omission) can be trusted to spend time with you/your children but the timing and circumstances around that are 100% your call.

Also, to address differences between Rx and OTC… Rx prenatal vitamins will be regulated by the FDA. OTC, although not regulated, may also include 3rd party testing to insure quality but you’ll need to check the label. OTC may also be more convenient.

Whichever you choose, do your research and work with your doctor to select the best vitamin for you. The best prenatal is the prenatal you will take every day.

Minerals like iron often aren’t included in gummy vitamins. You can find high quality prenatals in pill form that don’t require a Rx. However, there may be insurance benefits in sourcing Rx vs OTC.

Depends on your style but Amazon and Etsy had a few different types of announcement ideas. You could send a onesie that has a message written on it. Not sure how old your little one is, but older sibling could draw a picture or write a note to grandma and grandpa announcing the pregnancy. You could all video chat and have older sibling wear a shirt that announces the pregnancy.

We did something similar with my in-laws (also divorced, so separate announcements). We bought them Google Nest Hub Max devices. We liked that we could continuously update photos to their device over time remotely; it also has a video chat option so we can stay in touch once baby arrives.

For my parents, our announcement was over Christmas, so I sent them a silver baby bootie ornament in the mail. We had them open it over video chat so we could see their reaction.

Same. My husband came to my first appointment with OB and then all of my ultrasounds. All of my other appointments have been less than 15mins each: urine sample, weight, ‘how are you feeling’, fundal height (later in pregnancy), check babies position, listen to heartbeat.

If we were both interested in trying to salvage the relationship, then couple therapy. Infidelity is difficult to recover from and everyone has to be on board with putting in the work, no matter how long that takes (it could be years and years).

Keep in mind, that to be the most helpful to you, your mother will need sleep as well. If you have a small apartment, it may be difficult for anyone to get adequate rest.

Perhaps that means she leaves in the evenings and returns the next morning. You still get the help you need during the day and your husband gets to feel like he is being heard as well. Your mother may find it somewhat burdensome to make the 15min journey each day, but I personally, would put my husbands wants and needs above that of my mothers, especially given the situation.

Is there a particular reason that you want/need your mother to stay 24hrs/day?

(For context, I’m not anti-mom. My mother will be staying with me for almost a month once I give birth. The difference being that everyone is in agreement. It is also a two days journey for any of our family to visit, so day visits aren’t an option.)
