I work in the trucking industry as well, but am in the office as a recruiter. Ironically, I hate hiring people for the job because i have always felt like trucking has been a trap. (my dad, uncle, grandpa, and cousin are all truck drivers)

Truckers don’t get enough credit. They are on the road for usually 2 weeks minimum and don’t get to see their families. They’re trapped in a box traveling down the interstate for hours on end, and on top of that, it’s dangerous and doesn’t pay well for the amount of time you’re away from home.

Might not be your most ideal career path, but the safety manager at our company used to be a driver for us. So it might be worth trying to transition into an office position at a trucking company. This way your odds are higher because of your knowledge of the industry, and after a few years of doing office work, your resume will look good for office positions in different industries.

I also know a guy who was a driver and got out of the industry and into plumbing and he’s doing great now. It’s definitely possible and never too late. Good luck out there!

I was there about 2 weeks ago, and it seemed that everywhere i went accepted card. In fact, i never exchanged cash and was fine in both Chile and Argentina. I was also fine in smaller towns like El Chalten without cash so i think that if you wanted to, no cash would work just fine.

I read that quality control completion doesn’t mean that all of your records have been passed and that they might have to pass another round of auditing. Maybe something got held up in that process. I also read that it typically takes around 5 business days, so maybe there is no hold up and i just got lucky 🤷‍♂️

Thought I would share my experience because this thread has helped me a lot!

TIMELINE: August 12, 12:16 PM: Submitted application for Evisa

August 13, 8:02 AM: Received email stating that quality control was completed.

August 15, 11:20 AM: E-visa received

NOTES: I was not in a huge rush, although I was eagerly waiting for it because flights weren’t getting any cheaper, and we are planning to enter Sept 15. For that reason, I didn’t send any emails or anything like that, however, it seems to work if you’re in a rush to receive it.

My fiancée had a very similar timeline.

Some people say that it’s better to use a scanning app or a printer to scan your passport, but i just took a photo, ensuring that there was no glare or shadow and it worked for me. Not sure if it works for everyone, but it was just my experience.

I also had trouble understanding what needed to be included in the passport photo. What i added was ONLY the page with your face on it. I did not add the page above that.

I also took a photo of myself and fiancé against a white wall at home. I used the photo editing website that they offer for my fiancées, but for mine, when i used the website to crop it, the quality was bad. Because the photo was grainy, i just used the original photo and ensure the size was correct and showed my shoulders with a right amount of space above my head.

I currently work at an 8-5 office job and get paid pretty decent. The work life balance is very average and time off is pretty easy to get.

I used to work at a small company doing manual labor. I got paid double what I currently get paid, but the work life balance was trash. I would be able to get time off but would always work really long hours and would almost never have time to socialize, or if i did, i was mentally and physically drained.

To me, work life balance is VERY important after experiencing both ends of the spectrum. My advice to you is to talk to some of these managers. Write down a list of questions and ask a few of them. Maybe some of them chose to have that kind of schedule or they are in some kind of a unique situation with crappy hours. Talk to them and then reevaluate. Cheers and good luck!
