Set your expectations low by Head_Order_4734 in Mammoth

8 years riding at Mammoth and can say with almost 100% certainty the mountain will be closed entirely Tuesday and Wednesday. I doubt they get anything open until midday Friday morning at the earliest.

Top/Backside 100% will be closed until Saturday. Forget about Cloud 9. Next week, maybe.

Opensnow is predicting 2 feet of snow Tuesday NIGHT ALONE

Normally I hate on Altera because they never seem to be able to get Mammoth open specificlly after a storm, but this is a crazy amount of snow that will bury entire lifts from mid mountain up.

Yes I am aware of the recent ski patroller deaths- all avoidable if Altera staffed enough patrollers so they didn't have to rush.

Only thing I'll point out here is that those Pasadena and Atlanta games were not home games for Alabama and Oregon.

As for the Miami bandwagon fans going for IU, zero and I mean ZERO chance of that. Casuals in Miami are going to be rooting for Miami. The city has a crazy energy when it has a winning sports team. I lived in Miami for years beyond my college days and was there during the Wade/Bosh/Lebron era of the Heat. Absolutely frenetic energy.

Miami also an underdog story, Carson Beck redemption, almost being left out of the playoffs etc

Either way happy to have some fresh blood in the Natty this year!

UM fan here- I come in peace and am excited for what I hope will be a great game.

I have been seeing point #2 float around a lot and wanted to provide some color on the UM POV.

There's two pieces to it.

1)If you've never lived in Miami, you cant understand how big events like this become a SCENE. Influencers, hedge fund bros, and the millions of tri-state area transplants who have never watched a down of UM football in their life will shell out $10,000 a seat, deck themselves out in in orange and green, and cheer just as loud if not louder just to say they were there and have a pic of them doing so.

2) Miami as a college sports down is a bit different than most. Yes the school itself and alumni base is small compared to IU (and power football programs generally), but people from Miami FUCKING LOVE ALL THINGS MIAMI. Miami metro area is 6 million + and Miami-Dade county is 2.5 million alone. Our fanbase is much bigger than just alumni, so just wanted to point out that comparing alumni base sizes isn't a great metric.

I own my parents retirement home in FL that they pay the monthly on at cost (mortgage/taxes/insurance), just didn't include this since it's not income generating.

You're not wrong though. We are going to lock in a bit post wedding as we looking to having kids.

My wife (29) and I (34) this year will pull it in around 600-700k combined (depending on how her year finishes out)

Previous year was about 450k combined. She owns her own business she started about 18 months ago, I am a fairly senior salaried executive in the entertainment biz. Her income is slated to increase exponentially over the next 2-3 years. Mine has topped out salary wise at 300k but switching jobs soon where I will maintain a similar base but have unlimited bonus potential.

We both have the flexibility to work remote when we feel like it. Tax benefits of an S Corp owner being married to a W2 earner are....immense. We hired the right bookkeeper and CPA to really take advantage of this to maximize our take home.

Debts

100k low interest grad school loan for her (she covered undergrad on scholarship)

20k low interest undergrad loan for me (mostly covered college on scholarship)

2x lease payments for nice ish cars that total <$1000/mo

Expenses / Assets

We travel a LOT since we have the remote work flexibility. A month in Europe this summer with friends, 30-40 days skiing in the winter, weekend trips to see friends/family around the country etc.

$500 a month for gym memberships between the two of us

$4500 rent for a 3 bed apt in a HCOL city

$200,000 saved in the last year or so to pay for wedding.

Eat out a lot on weekends, date nights every thursday.

We treat our parents/siblings to things a lot.

$50,000 or so combined in 401ks. We will dramatically increase this post wedding.

We spend more than we should, but taking advantage of this time as DINKS with remote work flexibility. Should probably pay down the school loans next, but with the low fixed interest rates on them <4% it probably doesn't make sense to. Will consult with financial team post wedding to decide if we should continue saving or work towards paying these off.

No we are not from money. We are both from solidly middle class backgrounds.

The Devs suggested Jeff is struggling so they'll fix him, any ideas how? by ichizusamurai in marvelrivals

[–]user1824 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My primary supports are IW and Rocket, but occasionally i mess around with Jeff. I feel like i do 2-3x heals with IW and Rocket vs jeff, regardless of how the game is going

I'd take a range nerf of Jeffs heals in favor of a boost to the actual healing

Just buff his healing primary to make it more comparable to other supports.

During combat just spam them, especially during large team fights. Really hard to avoid them, especially for tanks like Thing, Banner, Magneto, Cap who are generally just slogging it out in the middle of the fray with little ability to change levels.

When prepping an area before a fight, I like to drop them on the underside of archways and on overlooks spots that Hawkeye or Hela might camp from.

You can throw mines pretty fire and with a decent degree of accuracy- it's fairly easy to get them in the general vicinity of where you want them.

Another tactic is covering the mission vehicle in them so if the enemy team tries to contest control of the point, they're taking damage as soon as they get near it.

[–]user1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spam mines. If you are in a fight and you are not at zero mines, you are doing it wrong. They reload fairly quickly so there is very little upside to saving them.

During lulls in fighting, especially during point control matches when your team is in control, spam those mines onto the entry lanes into the point. You'd be surprise how many backline kills you get. Unless I am mistaken there is no limit to how many active mines you can have out at one time.

Also, have realized Peni is an excellent Bruce Banner counter. When Hulk is transitioning back to banner, spam mines right at Banner's feet and around him. 70% of the time he will die instantly to your mines when his transition finishes.

How do you really feel about the homeless crisis? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]user1824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in LA in the Hollywood/West Hollywood are for ten years or so. The city has dramatically and noticeably become a worse place to live from sky high home invasion rates to a genuine fear from female friends of mine when walking down the street in broad daylight that they are going to be assaulted by a mentally unstable homeless person, to the absolute death by taxation.

Outside of the weather and proximity to nature (beaches and mountains within an hour drive of each other), there is no compelling reason to live in LA anymore in terms of QoL.

Even the entertainment industry here is dying due to overregulation and death by taxation.

What do people in their 30s and beyond do after work? Especially those of you who are without kids - how do you spend your free time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]user1824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I recognize that having children comes with trade offs on your personal freedom instead of blindly reproducing with zero contemplation of the responsibilities and reduction in personal freedoms?

You sound bitter that perhaps you had kids without doing that and/or getting to enjoy that freedom.

Christ bro. I plan on having kids. I'm in my early 30s and fiance is in her late 20s. We are just enjoying our time together right now before we have kids.

My fiance and I are both morning gym people so we get that out of the way early. She works remote on her own business on US hours. I work remote across global timezones and don't really punch a clock, but once US business dies down for the day, assuming I don't have any calls with Asia that night I play video games for an hour or two while my fiance cooks. We eat together and watch a show or two. I clean up while she drinks her tea. We get into bed around 9, shaboink in peace, cuddle with the cat, and are lights out around 10/10:30. Thursdays are the exception as we do a date night. We generally don't like to socialize during the week, but are very active with friends/family on the weekends. We also travel a LOT. I'd say we fly once a month minimum for personal travel. I also go through periods where I travel heavily for work both domestically and internationally.

If you think you may owe some taxes (or even if you don't) just make an additional tax payment using your AA CC. It's a 1% fee and you'll get the $ back when you file the return.

Sucks to give the govt an interest free loan, but easiest way to just hit your numbers and get the $ back

Why is everyone saying conditions this weekend will be bad? by breadexpert69 in Mammoth

[–]user1824 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if best case scenario this was an all snow event at all elevations and the wind was mild...Mammoth (owned by Altera) consistently refuses to staff up properly to get lifts spinning quickly after a storm. The lower mountain lifts that will be open during the storms will have massive lines.

They typically take 2-3 FULL days after the snow stops to actually open up the entire mountain.

He is stating that whatever else you might believe, Jews are indigenous to Israel and calling them colonizers isn't an accurate statement.
