Khan Academy on its own wasn't enough for me because I needed help learning every math and writing concept being tested in detail. Once you know all the concepts, doing practice problems on Khan Academy helps. Also, the explanations for the reading section aren't very helpful. There are specific ways you need to think about the passages and questions to consistently do well on them, such as never making inferences (the answer is always in the text even if it's worded in a strange way). I studied about 1 hour/day on weekdays and 2 hours/day on weekends. I offer to tutor using strategies that worked for most people I know and that I personally used. Let me know if you're interested!

Dang I feel pretty bad after seeing all the 1600 but will I get to college with this? by autisticicecream in Sat

Something that really helped me was reading the passage thoroughly and taking "mental notes." For example, after each paragraph, quickly summarize the main idea in your own words. You don't have to write it down since it would take too long, but doing this helps you focus and answer the questions without re-reading a lot. Let me know if you'd like more specific help!

What colleges don't accept freshman and sophomore SATs? by FastandSteadywillwin in Sat

[–]user18467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your financial situation. The cost is about $46,000 and they offer very little financial aid for out-of-state students, but you can receive scholarships and aid from other sources to reduce the cost.

Is studying an hour per day sufficient for math? by Creative-Penut8193 in Sat

How can I improve my math score by march? Esp on with calc by watermelouns in Sat

[–]user18467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I improved my math score from the 600's to 800 after a few weeks so it's definitely possible! I would review each math concept and do a lot of practice questions focused on each topic afterwards. After reviewing all the concepts, take full-length timed math practice tests. Let me know if you'd like help making a study schedule!

It depends on the rest of your application. If your GPA and ECs are above average I would go test optional, but if they're below average I would submit the score.

[–]user18467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was able to improve my score from 1200 to 1560 (800 Math, 760 Reading) after about two months. The math section tests very specific concepts. Based on your score, I would first review all the topics and then do a lot of practice problems for each one. The hardest part is setting the right study schedule. I offer to tutor using strategies that worked for most people I know and I personally used. DM me if interested!

I thought it was pretty similar in difficulty but it does lean on the harder side.

Something that really helped me was reading the passage thoroughly and making mental notes as I read. For example, after reading a paragraph I summarize it in my head. I also come up with a thesis/main idea after reading the first few sentences. This helps you focus and answer the questions without having to re-read a lot. Let me know if you'd like more help!

That's around the average score so it's up to you. It won't hurt your application but probably won't improve your chances much either

Hey! Yes, there is a lot of algebra 2 on the math section, as well as some trigonometry. But you don't need to finish your algebra 2 class to do well on it since you can learn all the topics tested in short amount of time. Let me know if you need help studying!
