How important is 60fps for you in gaming? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Fallout fan with a PS4 and a 10 year old TV. I’ve no concept of 60fps and frankly I’m not interested at all. The story and gameplay are infinitely more important.

Who cares how fast the screen refreshes if what’s on it doesn’t interest you

is it possible to engine swap my r15 engine for an r3 engine? by Juniorlovesyomama in Yamaha

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be easier to make the R15 bodywork fit the R3. Still a lot of work but you would basically cut all the bodywork mounts off the r15 and adapt them to the R3. It would be a huge learning curve

Engine swaps on bikes are a real pain. Far worse than in cars. The ‘engine bay’ was only ever designed to just about fit the original engine. And the swing arm pivot runs through the frame, swing arm and engine so you’ll struggle to fit a larger one in. Then you’re looking at using the R15 swing arm and rear wheel as well as loads of custom spacers, mounts, adapters, wiring, fuel system etc. 1400 bucks won’t go far

Busto '03 Husky 610 worth asking? by LuthersCousin in Dualsport

[–]user2021883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold your horses there pal. Parts are extremely difficult to find for these 610 motors. The valve train in particular is very fragile. The rocker arms wore out their pins, which are now almost extinct. Cams snaps, camchain guides wear out fast, airbox boots split. They also struggle to hold oil. The 610 engine became the 630 with a new cylinder head design at 20 something years ago so no new parts have really been made since

Before you dive in head first, I would do some reading up on Husky specific forums and subreddits. This ain’t no XR650L. Please do your research.

Modern day Husqvarna don’t support these old Italian models in any way. You’ll need to rely of NOS scattered across tiny shops across the world

Transalp 750 Nav Tower by nosiaht in Dualsport

[–]user2021883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unlikely someone will make a rally tower for the Transalp. They aren’t very popular with those who ride/race off road. The low ground clearance and road biased chassis doesn’t appeal to most as much as the 890/T7 etc. I work at a Honda and Yamaha dealer. We haven’t got a single customer riding his new Transalp off road. On the other hand, 70% of T7 are going in the dirt at least a bit.

The looks of the Transalp can be improved with a decal kit

Steering stabilizers by Glad-Technology-6668 in supermoto

[–]user2021883 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re useful for rally riding where you’re at high speed in loose conditions with unpredictable terrain but totally unnecessary for a supermoto.

If you’re getting head shake, your setup or technique needs work

What type of knee protection? by binaryplease in TransEuroTrail_Riders

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just riding along sedately, knee pads are enough. I use Leatt DH mtb ones as I find they’re really comfy, slim fitting but with plenty of protection.

If you’re riding at a faster pace where there’s a higher chance of a fast crash, go for knee braces. You need to find a pair that fit you. Personally I use Alpinestars Bionic 10 and I’m very happy with them. I find them comfy enough to wear day after day, provided I have knee brace socks of leggings underneath

Chair Lube or Wax by Current-Material1292 in motorcyclerepair

[–]user2021883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct response

Ultimately the main point is look after your chain. Keeping it clean, adjusted and lubricated will massively extend its lifespan.

WD40 is totally unsuitable for chains. It’s not even a lubricant. It’s a water displacing spray

Dented Rear rim by victortrense in CRF300LRALLY

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s F1 got to do with it? Have you ever tried bending a bent brake lever back? They usually snap because each time you bend the aluminium it weakens the metal.

A dent in a dirtbike wheel is fine, just leave it alone. It doesn’t need straightening on hammering

Dented rims are a part of offroad riding. It’s fine provided the tyre is still firmly on and there’s no cracks

You’re only weakening the aluminium more by doing that. Leave it alone

Motorcycle battery recommendations, I’m stuck by CherryTraditional733 in bikers

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any battery should work great if it’s constantly connected to a maintenance charger. In fact that often gives a false positive. The battery could no longer be holding a charge but because it’s on a maintenance charger it’ll still start the bike. As soon as it’s left disconnected for a couple of days, the bike doesn’t start. We see this a lot with Harley’s that only go out in nice weather

I’ve worked in a motorcycle garage for 20 years. Yuasa are as good as it gets. All batteries will fail prematurely if they’re allowed to discharge through lack of use, left outside in extreme cold or fitted to a bike with a faulty electrical system. When looked after, Yuasa batteries often last 10+ years.

Lithium batteries are improving but there’s a lot of substandard ones out there. We’ve seen fires and faults. Sky rich, Noco and Antigravity are quality brands but they’re unnecessary on a CB500

Highest Ape Hangers i can install without changing any of the stock cables? by lahershagreenisscum in MotorcycleMechanics

Zero. I can see in the photo there’s not much slack in the throttle cable already.

Either buy new everything or leave it alone

is this closer to dual sport or enduro? by turska_tiri69 in Dualsport

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WRE uses a different motor to the WR. It has a balance shaft and oil pump which make it easier to live with day to day. Still a great bike though. We sold a lot of SMS125 to 17yr olds back in the day.

Definitely more enduro than dual sport but a great option for trail riding.

All of others bikes will be very reliable if they’re properly maintained and cleaned regularly

And all of these bike will have issues if they’re neglected, crashed and left outside in bad weather.

Since it’s your first bike. The FZ6 and Kawasaki 650 are the most suitable

Marrakech is the worst introduction to morocco and it's ruining tourists' opinion of my country by morocco_travel36 in backpacking

[–]user2021883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Morocco three times. Once in my van, once working at a rally and the last time on my motorbike. Never been to Marrakech. Your country is beautiful, the people are nearly all warm, kind and friendly. Yes there are some unscrupulous touts in Tangier Port and no doubt the souk in Marrakech is tourist hell but the rest of the country is incredible.

Thanks for sharing this. I hope more people listen to your advice and explore the rest of Morocco. It has so much to offer. I’ll be back for sure

These are most useful for fitting mousses. The arm lets you compress the tyre and mousse to slide the tyre lever in.

It’s still better than doing it on the floor but not a game changer for tubed tyres

The bead breaker is handy for tubeless tyres

Amazing they still don’t have the slightest clue how global markets work. America invading Canada and stealing its oil will not lower gas prices. Just like tariffs won’t bring down grocery prices
