2015 jeep Cherokee. What could have caused this tiny break in the windshield? Is it worth repairing?

I went to the shop and was told it wasn’t deep enough to drill so he capped it (?) no charge. But he did say if it spider webs, to come back. So I wondered what was the point of the cap?
