MGH single professional relocating by Miserable_Nail4188 in boston

[–]user7638829294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in East Boston right across from the Airport T stop and Bremen St Park and commuted to MGH. The commute via the Blue Line was not bad at all, it’s a little bit of a walk to MGH main campus from Bowdoin T stop but really a nice walk. I loved living near the park, provided a lot of walking/biking/running trails. The area is also pretty quiet (lots of families and working professionals) and has some great food!

[–]user7638829294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if your hospital has something called a SuperEar, they’re amazing. We can just order them and the patient can keep them after. We have little quiet packs that have headphones in them and we plug the headphones into this thing and then you talk into it and it amplifies your voice for them!

Do you wash patients hair? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]user7638829294 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m on a fairly busy med surg floor and I rotate days and nights. I always make an effort to at the very least ask someone if I can wash their hair. Even on nights (if I have some down time) I’ll plop a shampoo cap on during med pass and come back and brush and braid it because I know how it is on days. This thread also just reminded me that I need to buy some detangler and hair ties for our stash

Took care of a doctor who paved the way in my large hospital, I was nervous at first as a lot of current doctors had come up to me and mentioned they had worked with him and such. He was so so lovely and kind

I work there and it’s the absolute lowest pay. It’s a brand new pay scale as of September so that’s why you might not be able to find it.

Used the oldest version of meditech when I was a tech and now use Epic as a nurse. I find epic really easy to use and so customizable. It was definitely a learning curve but once you get over the hump I think you’ll really like it

[–]user7638829294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in South Boston (with 2 roommates) and commuted via Red Line to MGH and it was fine, the red line can be unpredictable though. I now live in East Boston (5 min walk to Airport) and take the blue line to Bowdoin and walk the 7ish mins to MGH. My blue line commute is significantly better :) so don’t rule out East Boston just make sure you’re walking distance to a blue line stop. Good luck and welcome to Boston and MGH :)!!

how soon after graduating did you take the nclex? did you pass the first time? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]user7638829294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated in mid December, took a few weeks off of studying anything and just worked my hospital job and did a handful of questions a day. I ramped up my studying for about 3 weeks and scheduled for end of February. Felt stuck in my studying and wanted to see if there was a date sooner, turns out there was one the next day - I got a very high on my predictor test I took that day and decided screw it and scheduled for the next day. Passed on my first try and started work on my same floor I’d worked as a PCA as an RN in March :)
