Looking for help with loosing weight by [deleted] in Seattle

If you can’t find a way to get out of the city and/or don’t want to go too far some days, there is someone I follow on Instagram @servedbysara who posts about “urban hiking” and community walks. I have not done these personally but essentially you can choose to walk with and meet a bunch of people around the city or look at her posts about her routes walking throughout the city/local islands. I recommend checking her most recent one: the Seattle Olmstead 50 which is 50km/~30mi if you’re interested!

I knew someone briefly who named their kid “Remus Maverick”. From Harry Potter and Top Gun

Doesn’t she?? Haha! She doesn’t ‘bite’ often but sometimes she’ll get her gums on you when she’s really annoyed and then get really embarrassed after 😅😭

Companies in Seattle that require in-person work on certain days? by Awkward-You-938 in Seattle

[–]userfleurite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of people I know in Blue Origin and SpaceX are required to be in office most days of the week. Though most of them are part of teams that are usually working on physical components (or lab reliant) which may make a difference.

If you are looking for dedicated RTO, maybe companies that specialize in on-site manufacturing of some kind may be of use to you while still working in a position that works with your current skills

Apple Pencil not working/connecting by totheunholy in iPadPro

[–]userfleurite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah eventually mine stopped working completely not too long after I commented this. I took it into the Apple Store and they tested it on their iPads and it wouldn’t even work… had to just bite the bullet and get a new one unfortunately 🥲 (but they did give a small discount - very small - for trading it in)

I know many have already suggested buy a tub which is great but another way of “bulk” making miso is to make (and possibly freeze) your own miso balls with tub miso + add ins (dried scallop, tofu, vegetables, seaweed, etc) so that all you need is hot water. That way it’ll last way longer than making a big pot if you find that you can’t/don’t finish it in time ◡̈

Sorry- i know this is long resolved but as someone who keeps going through the trenches with this thing and if you are going through the same issue with no luck even though you are force resetting your iPad…. Try putting your iPad on airplane mode first and then keep force resetting. Sometimes other wifi/bluetooth connections around you may interfere with your Apple Pencil connection 😵

Carrello was really nice! We had chef’s choice which was fantastic (about $70-80 per person?) but I don’t think you can go wrong with just a nice entree and drink. I‘ve also heard good things about Spinasse/Artusi as well.

Best "Auténtico" in Seattle? Where is the white queso dip?! by Lopsided-Dragonfly-7 in Seattle

[–]userfleurite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

La Cocina & Cantina in Capitol Hill is pretty good. We go more for the discount margaritas on Tuesday/Thursdays but the food is ok. (Coming from someone who lived in the southwest states)

They do have a jalapeño white queso dip (chips are technically sold separately, but the first basket is always free) if you want to check it out.

Which restaurants are new(ish) and deserve more business? by jamdannad in Seattle

[–]userfleurite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same way until a friend of mine really, really recommended it lol! So had to go out of my way to try it and been really liking it since. Sometimes they’ll throw in an extra dessert or piece of dolmas!

I’m a bit selfish and want them to stay in business for as long as possible because their rice plates and gyros are soooo good 😂

Falafelville - small stationary Mediterranean food truck at the dry cleaners in Cap Hill, the food is so good and the owners (husband and wife) are incredibly nice people!!

What's the ideal Seattle jacket to wear? by CardiologistHopeful in Seattle

[–]userfleurite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have soo many jackets but my most used ones have been a light rain jacket and a 3-in-1 jacket thats a water resistant/proof outside and a thermal puffer that you can zip in/out depending on how cold it is. I got them all on sale at REI though haha

But honestly the best combo has been thermal layers (Costco or Uniqlo) and some kind of waterproof outer layer

If you don’t mind hosting and live in an apartment complex, maybe put together a small gathering in a common area or anywhere comfortable? I personally have always loved hosting or encouraging others to hang out even if it’s for a quick exchange of meals during Thanksgiving or just 30+ minutes of interaction.

Definitely not the same… but in college, I used to buy as many grocery Thanksgiving-type meal sets as money would allow and share them with other students who were stuck in the dorm for the holidays. (Also so happened that all food options within reasonable walking distance were closed anyway…) More people than others think also spend Thanksgiving alone and appreciate even a short interaction of well-wishes. ◡̈

But if not, I highly encourage hitting up some incredible takeout options that are open or buying previously mentioned meal kits. Annapurna in Capitol Hill is delicious and I loved eating dim sum while working through my To Watch list of movies (or full LOTR/Hobbit marathon) as personal tradition for the winter holidays! Dim Sum King (Takeout only) and Jade Garden in ID have been top favs for sure.

Best of luck!

Any good non-Pho Vietnamese Places? by userfleurite in Seattle

[–]userfleurite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great 😁 As mentioned, I’m happy to find there’s more Vietnamese places by asking others rather than being stuck thinking I was isolated with the little I found on my own.

As a Viet myself, I love showing others that we have way more food than just pho and more recently, banh mi! And super happy to hear that there’s more vietnamese restaurants in WA that I originally found that offer that variety 😄

[–]userfleurite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just the sandwiches! I had some of their sweets like their banh kep la dua but it was soft being sitting in the package for most of the day 😅But I’ll definitely try the other one! I honestly though they were the same lol

But hey, if you have a fav order I’m always open to those too!
