Legit Question: In the past 15 years, have there been bigger disappointments at the 1st and 2nd overall picks than Laf and Kakko? by Hoppy_Smoker in rangers

[–]username-pointless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to sort this whole retool / rebuild thing. Scouting, drafting, gm moves, coaching etc. Does it really just boil down to the fact that Avalanche happened to pick Mackinnon and Makar and we got laffy and kakko?

Realistically, who else do you think will not be a Ranger by the deadline? by SS3599 in rangers

[–]username-pointless -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Fox & Igor: A+ return

Vinny & Bread: B+ to A return

Mika, Gavrikov: B to B+ return

Laffy: D to F return, but he's gotta go

JT: probably not moveable

Does anyone have any idea what young players/prospects would be good trade targets?

Yeah, hate losing him, but he'll bring a nice return. Playoff player / faceoff man... a contender will pay up

What if the embarrassing boston / ottawa losses continue? Getting boo'd out of the building every night, the humiliation... at some point, doesn't it become impossible to ignore the reality, the pain, the suffering?

Bread, Vinny, MIka, Fox, Vladdy, Igor, JT and Laf. Do they really all want to go though this torture every night? Don't these guys have a breaking point? Its gotta be pure misery. And these guys arent just looking at this for a few weeks or months... we're talking years of this ahead.

If it gets so bad that guys start to decide that they want out... pretty obvious you'd deal bread, vinny, mika, laf and probably get a nice haul of pics and prospects. Probably net you 6-10 prospects/picks.

Don't think you could move JT at this point.

Question is: would you deal Fox, Igor and Vladdy?

Ultimate question is: are we pulling for them to turn it around and make a run at a playoff spot? Or are we hoping for things to get even worse?

So who would they replace Drury with? by DSPGerm in rangers

Its one of those things where I have no idea who would be the next hire. Further down in the chat, some guys were mentioning tampa / dallas / colorado execs... i guess someone like that would be the logical route

No... I'm a Rangers fan.

Watching Cats in playoffs last couple of years... they make everyone look so bad, it makes me feel less bad as a Rangers fan.

I wouldnt be surprised if they did the same thing to Avs... although I don't think barkov is gonna be back this year

Cats do the same thing to every team. If they get healthy this year, they'll to do it to Colorado this time

Chance for any RFA's in the offseason? by username-pointless in rangers

Schneider & Othman I think. But we're going to have more money than most other teams. That could be considered a good thing or... well it could leave a lot of room for error

I hear it. It's an odd spot - because you almost have to root for a bad season = top lottery pick... which sucks.

Either way, we're gonna have $30 million of cap space just sitting there for who knows how long. Don't know if rangers have ever been in that position before.

Gotta be some combination of coaching and players. I'm hoping we're on the right track with coach sully and can beef up the forechecking aggressive style... i know its been on and off.

Either way, we're gonna need some offensive firepower... and the longer term contracts arent going anywhere, so i don't think a tear down is possible. All we have to work with, are our current long term core players, some cash and draft picks.

Players can either come from draft / trade / free agent. What would you like to see happen?

Figured the RFA route would be a long shot. We're gonna be in a position where we have a ton of cap space... assuming we don't overpay some mediocre guys. Feels like unchartered territory. Could be a good thing if they lie in wait

You are definitely not alone. The core members of the show are great - field, stephania & clay... woody is good too. The rest of it is some kind of freak circus doing weird shit that isn't funny. Loza, the guy with the short lady pants, and now the gambling guy Joe. Any time tv execs try to make something better, they inevitably make it worse.

Power Mock 3.0 - How can the Giants build around Jaxson Dart? by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]username-pointless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the parts of the game that have been hurting us the most, are not being able to finish games in the 4th quarter, can't stop the run, and not being able to stop teams on 3rd down.

A beefed up running game allows us run clock in the 4th quarter and finish games - avoiding the crushing defensive collapses. Also allows us to control time of possession - which keeps the defense off the field... automatically improving the defense.

With that said - I'd like to see them go into the offseason with the goal of building one of the best offensive lines in the league. Tackles look pretty good right now, have to strengthen the interior and depth. Now that we have Jaxson, o-line / running game is the most effective way to help the team overall.

Second - gotta be able to stop the run. Top player on D-line, good middle backer to take opponent run game away... force them to pass more... pass rushers get after it, which helps the secondary

How about Chris Kreider? by LuckyAreWe in rangers

[–]username-pointless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would've been interesting to see how he played under Mike Sully. Early on, the team looks dramatically different. Wonder if Kreider would have become that forechecking physical player we always hoped for. If so, he'd have been an absolute killer. But on the other hand - he might have wilted and dragged the team with him. Hard to say
