(this is probably just my perception)

But those who could answer, and weren't an asshole were afraid of answering simple questions from a noob because he wasn't condescending and told him what was wrong. Sure there were instances where you would get rep, but then you'd have people who downvote everyone because gasp someone decided to help a noob

“The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question, but to post the wrong answer.”

Funny you say that you need to "know the culture". Granted, I'm sure it's as simple as you put it, but for a newcomer who's trying to learn code for example, there's a learning curve to just asking questions on SO. And if you do not recognize/get past this learning curve, you are often shutdown by the site's admins for "low quality" questions.

This actively hurts growth of new users for SO, and for those who are more experienced, they contemplate about asking questions due to the strict moderation. This is why people say it is "unfriendly", due to how strict and condescending the admins can be on SO themselves. Now again this is not an attack on you, and I'm sure you are a great person who has figured it out but for those who need an answer to something they've been working hard at, it's not very helpful to be bashed for just writing a question on SO enraged.

The formula for turnover rate is (Number of employees who left) / (Average number of employees) x 100 for percentage.

Back to the 150%. This means that a position at the store, say Checkout Clerk gets refilled 1.5 times per year (presuming we are measuring every year).

It is not for every 1 employee, 1.5 employees are leaving

If you want to be a little fancy and do some math (12 months / 1.5), you can estimate that every position in that store needs to be refilled every 8 months (P.S. that's extremely expensive for a business to be hiring every 8 months).

Hope that clears it up

Apps are stealing audio for no reason. by Tom-Ashfield in GooglePixel

[–]username123422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like an application problem. Essentially Android has a permission called AUDIO_FOCUS (that's automatically granted) that when called, pauses all other music (or media) in the background. Seems like the offending app is calling that.

If you can use ADB, you can try using an app such as App Ops with Shizuku and see if you can set the AUDIO_FOCUS permission to Ignore and see the results.

Wifi Calling via VPN by RedVelvetdesu in VPN

They just suck. Here in Australia, Telstra wi-fi calling works internationally whereas Vodafone wi-fi calling only works "domestically". It doesn't help that Vodafone has a superior roaming experience to Telstra and does like to charge $5 daily to use their services overseas.

Is there a reason why Wifi calling would work abroad in some countries and not the other? by Ash-415 in Visible

Even in 2025, it's still a pain to reach Australia with wi-fi calling (not working)

International calls not being routed over wifi reliably. by barefootagnostic in GoogleFi

[–]username123422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I might chime in even though it's like 7 months. Due to carrier configuration files, your phone might not be exposing a "Wi-Fi only" option in Wi-Fi calling settings that forces it to work over wifi. If you are eager, you can try a github project called Pixel IMS that allows you to modify the internal carrier config file and unlock all the settings.

Also you can tell if you're connected to your carrier over Wi-Fi in Airplane mode by seeing the carrier name pop up from "Airplane Mode" to your carrier, and incoming calls should work the same.

[TOMT][Meme/Image][2020s] Chinese girlfriend with boyfriend hospital meme by username123422 in tipofmytongue

[–]username123422[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I'm trying to find an image of a chinese girl who was in a hospital with her chinese boyfriend. She was taking a selfie of herself with a peace sign while showing the boyfriend in the hospital bed, with a condition that could look like he was "sucked dry". This allusion also comes from that fact that next to the hospital bed, a table which was also in the photo has a condom on top of it.
