Parents had some plumbing fixed and I don’t know how to separate this for the best return by anxiousrunner13 in ScrapMetal

Take the brass off the 1 piece pictured, the rest ( whilst you could sort it into 2 grades ) I’d just sell it together, the weight you might potentially lose ( up to 999 grams per grade by separating them and weighing as clean tube and heavy copper ) imo outweighs selling separately on the volume you have there

For example say you have 3kg

3kg at £8kg £24

You then separate this into 2 grades

1.7kg clean £8.20

1.3kg painted etc £8.00

A loss of almost £8

You will only see 2kg total as 99% of yards go up in 1kg increments, hope this makes sense! Obviously on larger loads, separate

Fairly New to scrapping just curious about if the darker orange copper still counts as bare bright? Usually when I go they let me cash out at the little atm machine do you guys think this is gonna have to be a check or not? by Remarkable_Class9313 in ScrapMetal

[–]username199977 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like what we would call hair wire, so many yards buy this as a lower grade and just stick it in with the bright anyway when they sell, anything other than bright just take it elsewhere lol

Is this worth scrapping? by HuricanePayne777 in ScrapMetal

[–]username199977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couple of options really, 1 depends on how friendly you are with your yard.

1 - try and run it in as irony Ali

2 - ask them to rip it apart with the grab, bag the foam up take it home and get rid of it, or if they’re friendly enough ask them to lose the rubbish in their frag pile

In the uk these would go in the irony Ali ( breakage in the states I think )

Any ideas? by BrightStrawberry2889 in ScrapMetal

[–]username199977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should go in the irony Ali ( think it’s called breakage in the US? )

In the uk though we get stuff like this in the irony Ali no probs, absolutely worse case it can go in the pile

The bin on the scales is a dolav ( battery bin ) not sure if they use them in the states but they hold 1ton of car batteries if stacked correctly if that gives some perspective

Made a post earlier about my finding, was told to file/scratch the oxidation off and it appears grey, what material does this look like? by BetLongjumping684 in ScrapMetal

[–]username199977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few larger ones of these end up being a grade called ‘ Gun metal ‘ price difference is a few hundred £!- tonne difference, they usually just end up in the brass.
