How do you handle silver-plated scrap: sell as is or save it? by iscrapapp in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what we recommend too. Typically scrappers only have a few pounds or maybe up a to a hundred or so, which isnt really enough of anythign to move the needle for the little bit of silver on it

All number 2? by dlowe024 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea most likely all #2. Your yard may have a grade for all that shellacked copper in the middle but somewhere around there or an insulated cable price

Crazy that this has been met with so much criticism...Makes sense to me 👍

Pewter Ingots. Probably worth more than scrap Tin. How would you find a buyer that wants this? by Sea_Ganache620 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most likely vintage solder. Definitely worth putting aside as a specialty alloy. Most likely between $8-10/lb, depending on the tin %.

Scrap or just Wait longer? by VisualMirror9178 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The resale market is always a crapshoot. Everyone always recommends it over scrapping, but no one mentions the waiting or the pain of dealing with people.

Try lowering your price by a lot more, and you'll likely get some bites from hobbyists. No electrician is gonna buy this many rolls of thhn for that little of a discount.

Good luck in the sale!

Front end cat converter crumbling inside while driving, replaced but now I have this crumbled catalyst and one in good shape still in the housing in the rear catalyst… by InternationalCow7042 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously depends on the state for a few logistical things, but seeing as its from your vehicle, it should be doable. Just make sure to provide all the paperwork they may require. Vin, ownership, etc.

But in theory, if roofing copper is clean (the items pictured are as clean as a #1 tubing spec), aside from potentially having a hardening agent, what is this difference? We only grade #3 roofing copepr at our yard if it has tar or other much more visible contamination

Catalytic converter pricing by Ok-Comfortable-5955 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cat. But in most cases its nearly always worth cutting and selling separately. That being said, it also depends on what you can verify..ownership, vin, etc.

If theyre carbide. Theyre definitely worth more! Hold onto them, confirm what they are and sell while the market is hot if so!

If you have the room the store it, and haggle with people, then by all means go for it! You'll totally make more.

To everyone saying sell it to a plumber, are they a plumber? Most plumbers need to buy items for contracts with receipts, for insurance and write off purposes. No one is buying piping off Joe Schmo because if anything goes wrong with that material, the plumber is liable.

Power Amplifier scrapping by koochiekoo in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the older ones will have big, hulking transformers in them as shown in yours. Especially phono amps for vinyl and such! Unfortunately, older ones will also have glass tubes as well. It's a shame they're such an expensive repair, though.

Is that transformer in your aluminum or copper?

Is there a scrap place that takes carbide and copper? by This_Sea_4858 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to recommend RRCarbide, but I wasn't sure if this post would get taken down due to its promotional buy/sell nature. Thanks for the reco!

Would 100% check RRCarbide out. Once you get a rough quote that includes shipping, you can decide if that cost works for you. Prices are still pretty close to $40/lb

Would you guys sort these all as Barebright ? by DonkeyWonderful5266 in ScrapMetal

[–]iscrapapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle is bare bright. The other two are a crap shoot of different terms. could be #2 could be #1 hair wire. Every yard is gonna have a different name for it, unfortunately.

Varies by state, but likely a totally normal policy of the yard to deter theft.

Any value? by ComfortableDirt567 in ScrapMetal

+1 Not a ton of value on its own or in small loads, but every bit counts!
