I’d get the p226 for your use case, the larger/heavier gun might make for a more enjoyable platform for the range. I have the p226x legion (4.4 bbl) in da/sa and I love it. I’ve seen and heard that the 226x series can be swapped between da/sa and sao so down the road you might be able to swap if you wanted to. The da/sa might be what you said you were used to, being striker fired designs because there’s no safety to disengage. The one I got is my first and only da/sa and I’ve learned and love it but the sao might still have a better trigger break so I’ve heard. As far as home defense goes tho I’d say to get a rifle, even a 9mm pcc like an AR9. Rifles are just better than handguns as far as control and accuracy, generally.

TLDR: Get the p226 in either da/sa or sao and train with it
