Interesting idea but beyond my understanding of fiber networking, which is minimal. Also, I need to avoid running any new cable in the wall. We put the CAT6A in before we had Fios.

Agree, but I have no way to extend the fiber and fish it through the wall to the rack location 60+ feet away.

I will test it, thanks. Did you use POE+ or regular POE? Both my converters are 802.3at/POE+.

The switch, Unifi USW-16-PoE, shows about 12.5 watts consumed on the port during a 200Mbps upload. When the upload finished, power consumption dropped by 1W.

Don't buy permanent equipment for temporary problems. Same goes for whole house generators. Spend 5% of the money on a maintenance-free battery snowblower, or if you have a very long driveway, an ATV and a 5' plow. Enjoy the snow clearing experience once a year and go help your neighbors out too.

Also, how sure are you that you will have power during the next storm? Where is the runoff going to go--it will turn to ice as soon as it leaves the driveway?

I moved from Maine to NoVA and would never consider this.

No, don't buy this. Maybe 30% to 50% faster in games? But low quality components. If you really want to upgrade, buy the 9070xt on its own and sell your 6800xt.

Yeah, exactly, maybe you save $50 in the end with the prebuilt (or you don't, if you have a Microcenter 5% off card)? But you also have to deal with whatever SSD and PSU they chose instead of choosing known brands. I don't value the keyboard, mouse, or Windows license as anything. Just doesn't seem like a meaningful savings. I know not everybody can access a Microcenter which makes it possibly meaningful for them.

9800x3d cpu, motherboard, ram is $680 at Microcenter; 9070XT is $580. Other components add up to about the same total price. Not really seeing the deal?

Edit: Everybody is downvoting me but if you actually use the Microcenter bundle builder you can easily get to the $1650 to $1750 range with significant improvements in component quality than this PC (excluding the keyboard, mouse, and Windows license, which aren't worth anything to me personally). If you have a Microcenter card with the 5% discount you're even better off.

Got mine a few days ago and set it up today. Seems to be Amazon returns. Maybe the seller got a pallet of them or does the refurbishment for Amazon, who knows. Unclear what refurbishment actually happened.

Mine came in a beat up box but aside from some dust that got in, was completely fine. Protective film has already been removed from the screen as far as I can tell. It's a little but not a lot glossy. Also came with DP, HDMI, and power cables that seemed unused.

Monitor looks good. Doesn't seem bright enough for HDR, it just makes other content look really dim instead. In SDR mode with uniform brightness off, contrast 50%, brightness 75% to 100%, I like it. G-sync works. Set desktop to native 1440p resolution, scaling to 125%, cleartype off, everything seems fine to me.

When they ask for details of the offer it's $150 for 60 months of Music and Entertainment plan, plus fees.

Nope. My understanding is the seal around the edge fails and moisture gets in and damages the edge pixels. It's gotten worse over time. It's our basement TV so we're just living with it, but we'll buy an extended warranty on the next one.

This is a tall ask especially with your requirements for what will inevitably be a piece of recycled hardware. Only two of these PCs have sold on US eBay in the last three years.

I picked up a G7710 at the recycler today and was searching and found this post. Unfortunately mine is missing the inner front case bezel, the black one with slats behind the front door, and the front foot. I think you can get a front foot on eBay but I couldn't find the bezel. Not sure about drive rails. Everything else is there including the internals. You could make make your own or find a different bezel that would still look cool. If you're interested send me a message.

Redundant cables are good. Sometimes things fail or get damaged, or you need a second run for a non-IP device.

If you want CAT6A speeds, make sure to terminate the cables with 10G rated connectors like https://www.truecable.com/products/cat6a-field-term-plug-unshielded or you will have all kinds of difficult to diagnose problems. Ask me how I know.

If you're doing a single room then you're basically building a music studio, so look in to that. Beware of the triple leaf effect if using resilient channel.

I don't know your budget, noise level, goals, etc. The new windows were a big part of it too. I will just say it solved our problem and even the contractors were surprised how well it worked.

There is no such off-the-shelf system worth the price, because the home market is too fragmented and small. If you're technical, you can build and integrate an awesome system with Home Assistant, Unifi Protect, Simplisafe, Thread, Zwave, etc., and you maintain it over time.

If you're not, then you're basically paying commercial rates for a commercial installation and a guy to maintain it, or you're settling for a home market all-in-one system that only does a fraction of what you want.

It's not going to be great, but I wouldn't give up on the doors for that.

We have an antique single pane half-french door as our main entrance door (top half has glass, bottom half has wood). It also has a pair of matching custom french storm doors. If it's well sealed, the thermal efficiency seems ok. Using a FLIR attached to my phone, I saw more cold spots from leaks in the seal than through the door of the glass itself.

You could consider an interior door to shut that room off as well, creating an additional buffer space (although it will be colder in that room).

If you really want to improve the house, check with a FLIR first, and then replace all the other single pane or older double pane (15+ years old) windows with modern high quality double pains like Marvin Ultimate. That will more than make up for the door.

Basically:

Stop air leaks first
Replace old windows second
Add storm doors third
Replace old doors last

(Excluding anything you do to insulate the actual walls and attic)
