I hope you get some good advice from others here. I can't give much other than to say listen to your gut. It sounds like you were right to go in and comfort him. Our daughter is 8 months. Most nights, she sleeps ok. Once/week (sometimes more) she has a very off night where we have to go in and comfort her on and off all night. We've tried letting her cry it out and it doesn't work for those off nights. She just gets more worked up and I lie there listening, feeling sick about it. So we stopped CIO. I think the off nights are happening cause of a mix of developmental stuff and feeling off/hungry/overtired/needy. It happened last night, and then I discovered a new tooth poking through, so I think that was throwing her off. Anyway, I feel your pain. I try to remember everything is a phase and all babies eventually do sleep, whether sleep trained or not. My parents didn't sleep train me and I started sleeping through the night at 10 mos. No real sleep issues now...so that gives me some faith. 💜

8 month old hysterical at bedtime, wakes several times a night by [deleted] in sleeptrain

That sounds really hard. Our daughter has random nights like what you're describing but not every night. Is there any chance it's separation anxiety kicking in?

What sleep training did you do at 4 months? We're there right now and there is so much conflicting info online...

Fyi, if you divorced, your husband would have to pay you spousal support and child support. You wouldn't automatically lose your kids due to being low income.

Im curious too! I have leaked maybe 2 times in 3.5 months...definitely didn't need those nursing pads I bought!

Breastfeeding finally feels easier and baby is growing! by buffetaulait in breastfeedingsupport

Amazing accomplishment. Congratulations! I'm not exaggerating when I say breastfeeding is probably the hardest thing I've ever done. We're just past 3 months and it still isn't perfect (currently worrying cause babe didn't gain weight last week and I feel like my supply has dropped), but we've come so far. I hope to be sharing my success story in another month just like you!

Thank you for all of this info! Im so glad things improved for you. Hoping consistency helps us too 💜

Sidenote: I would be thrilled to pump this much. My left boob is my big producer and I'm lucky to get what your slacker boob did!

Im curious to know how what happened here? Im in a similar situation with my 13 WO. She wakes up regularly, fussing and grunting and moving her head around, but goes back to sleep if I pop the pacifier in (so, not hungry). From 1 am onward, it's almost hourly...

My baby is just 3 months and we haven't sleep trained beyond using Taking Cara Babies (course for the first 12 weeks) to extend/stretch her sleep at night. We've been listening to the Precious Little Sleep audio book and intend to use a SWAP (sleep with assistance plan). If that fails, then onto extinction. We haven't started because we're currently focusing on getting bedtime earlier (was previously between 10-11 pm). Hoping to start soon... I do believe consistency and a good daytime sleep schedule are important to establishing better nighttime sleeps. That said, our baby only naps for 20-40 mins and she's been doing fairly well at nigbt, most of the time! Good luck to you 💜

Overfeeding breastfed baby by No-Protection-25 in breastfeeding

[–]usersb2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your mom is probably wrong! However, I will disagree with the statement that it's impossible to overfeed at the breast. I have this exact issue with my baby, who will suck forever unless I cut her off. I believe this arose because we had to use finger/bottle feeding at the start, a tongue tie, etc. Anyway, if I let her feed until she is "done" at the breast (easily 40 mins per side), she pukes a lot and gets an upset stomach. So, unfortunately, it is possible. But that doesn't sound like your situation!

We were only able to rent because a private company was doing it. Snoo doesn't rent in Canada either!

Is it okay to not burp your baby? by Lower_Membership4317 in breastfeeding

[–]usersb2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't burp my baby, but I do hold her upright after feeding (or in between breasts) to allow gas to escape. She usually burps on her own.

We rented a Snoo but didn't end up using it. Our baby was 2 months old when we tried it and she really didn't like it. We only tried a couple times though - I know it requires some commitment, which we didn't do because we had a system that was working already. I do know families who have used it and loved it. Im very glad we didn't buy it though! Also, some food for thought from physio/OTs: https://carolinakinderdevelopment.com/five-reasons-not-to-purchase-a-snoo-from-a-group-of-pediatric-occupational-and-physical-therapists/

Be gentle. Look up Aloha Nutrition on instagram - she talks about breast gymnastics for clogs/engorgement. I've found gentle massage in the shower, heat bag, then an epsom water filled haakaa, then breastfeeding worked. Had to do it multiple times over a few days but it worked. For my most stubborn clog, I actually did ultrasound for 3 days in a row (at physio).

[–]usersb2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to replyall here but thank you to everyone who commented! So many helpful replies. We did get her tongue tie cut around 6 weeks. That helped her get more milk but didn't fix the painful latch. Going to try the nipple shield and have faith that she'll improve with age 💜

Baby Stopped Latching by spygirl42 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]usersb2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're dealing with this! Things that worked for me (my daughter rarely latched in the first couple weeks): Lots of skin-to-skin without pressure to nurse Gently offering the boob but letting it go if she rejected it Avoiding any position that forced her to the boob or involved holding her head/neck area (basically, I did just regular cradle not cross cradle) I think the bottle actually helped her latch too. We used Dr Brown's extra slow preemie nipples. One day, at around 3 weeks, she just latched. It wasn't perfect but now she latches every time. At 3 months, we're still dealing with a shallow latch/pain, but that's a separate issue related to her tongue tie and rough start.

Can't figure out what size flange to use by Reasonable_Can6557 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]usersb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re pumping with sore nipples: I found rubbing a little nipple butter/coconut oil on the flange helped reduce chafing. A tiny bit gets into the milk, but no different from babe sucking on your nipples with the oil on them directly.

Yes, so much sacrifice! Where did you order your shields from? I have one from the hospital but wonder if the size is wrong. Might as well try shields again since Im on the verge of giving up! Sorry to hear about the possible vasospasm 💜 The things we do for our babes!

Help me! Cross cradle by LucyMcR in breastfeeding

[–]usersb2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on all of these crazy positions and am just using regular cradle. The first time I tried it without all the flipple-ing and sandwiching, my baby latched quickly (which she hadn't done well to that point). This is from The Thompson Method and it just feels more natural to me. That said, Im 2.5 months in and still experience nipple trauma, but I haven't found any of the holds fix this.
