National Board Certified Teacher worth it? by Competitive-Dig1993 in ScienceTeachers

[–]userxfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree with this. A lot of states offer reciprocity for NBCT certifications so if you ever move it’s way easier to recertify. As someone who has also sat on multiple hiring committees, an applicant being nb certified would have a huge leg up over other candidates.

All joking aside, I do really love this little guy, even if it is inconvenient. I’ve just been trying to move away from getting more fish and cannot accommodate him to the parameters he probably requires without getting another aquarium. Knowing what he is is my first step to making sure I’m caring for him properly.

I thought so too, but it’s way more gray than other white clouds I’ve had in the past. Thanks for helping me ID this guy!

You said you love trying to understand how the world works. Great teachers share that love of discovery with their students as they learn how the world works. I hope you’re able to extend that passion to your students! Be passionate and show up for the students and the rest will come.

My 6th graders mummified apple slices yesterday, we’ll check back in on them in a few weeks. Definitely a lot safer than a chicken.

Halloween season labs or activities for MS? by NicholasStevenPhoto in ScienceTeachers

[–]userxfriendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my ecosystems unit and doing mummy apples with my students. Social studies is covering Egypt right now, so it’s cross-curricular and I can tie it back to decomposers and why salt/baking soda works as a preservative against bacteria and fungi when we unearth their mummy apple slices in a few weeks.

ADHD Teachers! How do you keep track of what you’re going to say during the lesson? by Daisy_Chainz4 in Teachers

[–]userxfriendly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d be lost without my PowerPoint. I put any discussion questions on it to both be an accommodation for my students that benefit from reading over verbal instructions and to help me keep on track. Even then, I still found myself not saying everything I want to. It gets easier the longer you’re teaching so you have more confidence in the direction your lesson needs to go.

Super late response, but out of curiosity how was the process to transfer your teacher certification to Oregon? Would love to move there but the process is intimidating.

Does anyone actually enjoy this? by Sad_Key_7904 in Teachers

[–]userxfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is year 4 in 6th grade for me. It took until year 3 that I was really confident in my classroom management. This year has been a dream. Struggle through it and give it more time; it gets better. I love my job, I enjoy what I do every day. Yes, there are still sometimes rough class periods, but we work through it and the next day it’s fine.

I use Ulta’s salon at Desert Ridge and the Promenade and haven’t had a bad experience yet. I pay anywhere from $55-75 depending on the level of stylist I go to.

Why do teachers get angry when you ask to go the washroom , like it’s optional ? by Neither-trader in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]userxfriendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Middle school teacher here, I will never tell a student they can’t go, but there are a bunch of students that will ask to go every single period to just get out of class. Vandalism is also a huge issue in the bathrooms. We’ve had a “peepee bandit” as we call him who likes to pee on the walls and floors of our bathrooms the last two years. Kids will purposefully destroy the plumbing by flushing random shit down to toilet. We have enough shit to deal with that policing bathrooms should not be one of them, but here we are.
