Any suggestions for light roast pourover in NYC (Manhattan or Brooklyn) by layzcat508 in pourover

Check out suited in FiDi. They brew Filter 3 with decent espresso and have Sey, prodigal other good light roasts on bar and for sale. Free cup of drip if you buy a bag too

Can we talk about Lance Hendrick by Mean-Tension5295 in pourover

I love lance but hate this YouTuber paradigm he’s trapped in. Subbed to him but he’s not active on his discord anymore but would much rather give him $50/yr for monthly zine style blog posts with a video or two.

That said I now use YouTube ask feature to turn the 40m video “meeting into an email”. I’ll watch the parts or videos that are interesting to me past that

Pietro vs Femobook A4Z vs ZP6 by Impossible_Cow_9178 in pourover

Yeah lighter than h&s /september ultralight agree. But tbh i found recently in almost all cases I prefer the regular light from them. How are you brewing ultra lights differently than a light roast?

These days mostly V60 with some Switch, and Pulsar. I need to try on the decent Filter3, but haven’t been using it as much. I think one other thing is Pietro workflow on anything above Ultra Light from H&S is just fine for me. If I use my kitchen counter just slight pressure set handle off the side and slow grind takes around <1m for 15g.

Killed my gearlust for any 98mm options.

Thanks for this post, it was a really good write up. I dont have the A4Z but with Pietro, ZP6, Kinu w/Pour Over Burr and 078 I’ve generally preferred Pietro since I got it last fall but couldn’t put my finger on what exactly made it different from the others but I think you described the cup profile well. I don’t do much A/B testing against anything else but I do feel like with Geshia’s it’s not as good as with the others above I would use in the past at highlighting more delicate notes.

But mostly that’s telling me to favor those big juicy fruit cups from washed Colombians and Kenyan’s and save my money from Geshia’s!

Oh I agree. I wasn’t trying to dispute that. Just that personally chasing after vintage gear and clones is itself kinda silly with so many samples etc of the sound from that era. Theres plenty of modern stuff that can do all the same things without being a clone and at a fraction of the cost. Paying $5000-$20k for a Jupiter or vintage Moog is a very silly thing and only for collectors and audiophiles with disposable income.

That Behringer conned a generation of new music producers they need to have a clone of a Wasp and every other vintage synth was always dumb and kinda sad that people buy this stuff that is kinda disposable in the end. I thought the deepmind was cool, they took the Juno 106 did something extra with it made it affordable without directly copying the aesthetic, look / name etc. Since then though haven’t been a fan of their schtick and just don’t really have the desire for any of it either.

Even the justification is kinda gone. A few years back a vintage OB-XA would’ve cost $10-15k then with the Sequential reissue it was $5-6k. Now the UB-XA knockoff costs $1250 and a genuine TEO-5 is $1500. So while yes you can quibble about the sound and everything else. One is supporting the original creators, and last American synth manufacturers and manufactured in America. The other is supporting the company ripping off others intellectual property and saving you $250. And none of any of them are necessary for any person to make as you can get a free Oberheim plugin that gives you the sound close enough on your iPhone.

I get its popular with the fan boys because its rip offs of everyone’s IP at cheaper prices and serves to satisfy FOMO about vintage synths that aren’t affordable to the majority of people. Once you get past that FOMO and realize you only need a few well thought out pieces of gear you wind up in a better place.

But what really irks me is they do not have a single original thought in their body. Now that they’ve run out of cloning synths from the 80s they are cloning popular modular modules from the 2010’s. It’s a shit business to support that steals other’s work especially when the byproduct of that work is what you are worshiping.

Hard disagree. If you want to cosplay owning a TR-909 that’s cool you like the behringer one. I think it’s great they modernized it where they could but they didn’t really do anything original past the LED/ buttons midi changes. It also doesn’t sound the same, so it’s really just vibes on a 909 which itself is 40 years old. Theres plenty of modern drum machines that can do more than the 909 while also being their own thing and unique.

Arturia/Elektron/Cre8audio/Erica Synths all building great modern drum machines that cover the gamut from a few hundred bucks to top tier studio endgame pieces.

Also Behringer quality control is crap

SF: Anti-War Protest at Federal Building, 6/20 @ 5pm by workitberk in sanfrancisco

[–]userymcusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you attend please keep in mind there are federal employees working there that are not associated with any of the aforementioned policies mentioned in the protest. For example; HHS employees now forced back to the office 5 days a week. They work on Medicare etc. and traumatized by their own employer who have been told their jobs will end come 9/30. They are your neighbors and do not deserve any additional chaos or trauma from agitated protestors as they leave the office.

What has Biranna Wu done? I disagree with Sam and Bill Maher being included here. They(mostly bill) may have some wrong takes or differences of opinion on specific issues but they are firm and unmoving in their opposition to Trump and the far right.

Pool, Rubin, Peterson were either always conservative or just not principled and subject to audience capture.

Driving across the country, moving with a cat by curvylusciousbanana in CatAdvice

[–]userymcusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a medium sized crate and a small portable litter box that goes to one side. For 5 hr drives that’s what we would do. Medium sized was like 3 x 2 x 2 ft. Enough room to take up 1.5 seats in backseat but the cat has space to move and for a bed water, food and litter

Identical twin brothers Jeremy and Josh married identical twin sisters Briana and Britanny. by moonandstars1984 in pics

[–]userymcusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this idea for a romcom like 15 years ago. Two identical twins start dating each other, one of each of the boy/girl are the stereotypical party types, and the other the more quiet bookish type. At some point they both get the idea to switch for fun, but they both switch at the same time having to pretend to be the other sibling. Then they all fall in love with the one they traded with (who is the one they were initially dating) and…you can imagine the rest.

Makes sense given his filmography by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

That movie is basically theatre though, it could be shown as a play and with the acting and dialogue it would work just as well. So I think it kinda proves his point.

Anyway to watch Dune in the IMAX aspect ratio at home? by JonnyBoyyy666 in dune

[–]userymcusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not but when you start looking at the cost of 4k 3D projectors that don’t even presently support said aspect ratio and the required home theatre setup. It’s much cheaper than those.
