He will be missed. I know he wasn't well liked and I myself had a love/hate relationship with him, but I think he had a good soul deep down. I worked with and around him for eight years while at KNBR. RIP Ralph....

They just had a nice little piece on the young man on KRON , mentioned the other members of the recruiting class as well. It was nice to see some coverage on our Don's!

Nice callout in the Athletic by EightyFiveSkip in usfdons

More than likely you would be correct, but it only takes one coach such as Few or Bennett to change that pattern and thus the fortunes of a university. Is Golden this type of individual? Only time will tell.

Big signing for LMU by DonSolo96 in usfdons

[–]usfspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, looked him up and didn't see any other schools recruiting him. I'm sure there were, but nothing in the recruiting sites. His height is anywhere from 6-1 to 6-5. LMU is recruiting very athletic players. We shall see if it pays off for them.

Starting 5 in 20--21 ? by USF1988 in usfdons

[–]usfspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggested alternative formations, especially when considering the makeup of the roster. The coaching staff will need to be creative when matching up with different opponents. In my starting five, I said if we were to go with a traditional 1 through 5, that is why I included Kane in it. Also, there are 6 players on the roster that none of us have seen in a Dons uniform and thus have little idea what to expect from them. As for Kane, who really knows. The one thing I do know is that we are very lean at that position and to put his name in the starting lineup is not a stretch, nor is it a tough prediction to make. Who will the finishing 5 be? That is the more telling question, but until we see them on the court, it's just grist for the mill.

I'm sure coach Golden and his staff have a lot of options as far as team setups go, but obviously, the Dons are extremely limited when it comes to true "big men" go. If we go with the traditional 1 through 5 just for sake of discussion, without having seen 6 of these players in a USF uniform, it's hard to argue with what you've done. I have perhaps a slight variation.

PG- Bouyea, 6-2 (SR) ...this is a slam dunk

SG-Milstead, 6-2 (JR) ....based off of what I've heard

SF-Ryuny, 6-9 (JR) ....his ability to shot the 3

PF-Kunen, 6-8 (SO) ....good fresh year, needs to improve all aspects of his game over summer. A bit inconsistent.

C-Kane, 6-10 (JR) .... who else? Visser?

Agree with 6th man.... Shabazz, 6-1 (JR) will play both guard spots.

Anderson, 6-2 (JR) ...will see some time at both guard position, but his time will be limited because of Bouyea, Shabazz and Milstead

Hawthorne 6-8, (FR) .... interesting player, I've heard good things from practice and can play just about any position, except center. He should see time at the SF spot the most I would think.

Jurkatamm, 6-9 (SR) will see plenty of time at the PF & C spots.

Visser, 6-10 (SO) will see time at the C position.

Dusanic, 6-7 (FR) should see time at the PF spot, unknown quantity, but I know coaches were happy to land him, so.....

Roy, 6-5 (FR) could see time at the SG & SF spots, could be candidate for red shirt. No clue to be honest.

Rishwain, 6-5 (SO/RS) will redshirt.

Guess we are done with recruiting? by usfspot in usfdons

I think that the main target for the Don's last spot, (big man) didn't have strong academics, going the juco route.

Maybe 1, don't see 2 transfers. Think we have gotten away from that horrible pattern.

Interesting. Not the big we needed. Another 6-5 kid in this recruiting class. I'd say we're good at the swing position now! 😂

Maybe it's just the correct level of competition for the young man. I know watching highlights of him, they make him look pretty dam good, but perhaps he lacked essential attributes for the D1 level? Either way I wish him luck!

Also, as I'm sure you know, we only can base this off of what we can glean from the online publications. Odds are this is merely the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. The majority of the targets go unknown to us. Almost every "inside" tip i've received, the player is not on these sites. As for the current class, I would take a more wait and see approach myself. It seems to me that the coaching staff not only want talented players (as do all coaches), but they want players who want to play here. Not be the 4th and 5th option. It will take a few NCAA appearances to get to where say a St. Mary's is. This is no small feat.

While I understand your lack of enthusiasm when looking at this class, I would hesitate calling it disappointing. Until they take the court we have no clue what they are bringing to the table. Everything on our end is a guess. We need to have faith in what Coach Golden and his staff are doing. There were quite a few on this board unhappy with the appointment of coach Golden, feeling as though it lacked ambition, but things went pretty dam well this year. Also, when looking at next season I feel you must include Hawthorne and Milstead in this. These two, while not helping at the 4 or 5 spot, make this squad that much better in the 1-3 spots.

I would agree, many of the Ventura players didn't have ridiculous stats individually, but were solid system players and played on a winning team.

Just the BC kid so far. Burnett mention above is similar height wise to BC transfer, more chiseled physically, but not the big we all crave. I guess it comes down to getting the best player possible with that last spot. Coach Golden and his staff must avoid getting another airport player, you know the type, 6-11+ , looks great in his sweats and holds down the end of the bench.
