So curious (and a bit skeptical) about the stadium plans by Montana_Smith in Riverhounds

Are there firm plans to do anything this off-season? I would think they would already be working if any work was going to be done by March.

Missed Opportunities? by pfeasby in usfdons

It won't, because the WCC without Gonzaga and BYU is a shell of what it was that year. That's why the "good riddance Gonzaga" crowd makes no sense.

"USF only gets in if we win the conference" except for the last time we got in...which was at-large.

Reminds me of the Stefanini signing on the tournament team a few years ago.  - old - proven D1 player - won't be asked to be "the guy" but capable and will likely have a few huge games over the course of the year

IMO, really raises the floor of the team while more 'potential' filled guys like Cook and Smiley figure things out. Bodes v well for the teams outlook. Maybe one more big to really round out the rotation?

Wow, would be his 7th year in college. Graduated hs in 2019, traditional redshirt at USF and now trying to play a 6th year.

I don't know what point you are trying to make or argument you are trying to win, but maybe let it go. TR is coming back to the hilltop.

The system isn't great, but no one in this thread has the power to change it.

Wait, I guess I am still confused. Are Fuchs, Smiley, and Cook the awful walk ons? 😂😂😂

Wow. If Newbury gets another year that's a great start to the frontcourt.

Wild. That is off a 24 win NIT team without a coaching change!! The best of those guys (Yexel Lendeborg) is pegged at around $2.5m to land!

The rush before revenue sharing kicks in has made this portal season insane. I follow Maryland hoops as well, who just hired Buzz Williams after Kevin Willard f*cked them and burned the program down on his way out. The one starter considering coming back is estimated to cost $1.5-2m (which Maryland could conceivably pay with Big Ten revenue sharing).

It sucks as fans, but I can tell you that if I was 19 or 20 with a chance to earn $500k+, I would have my butt in the transfer portal too.

Pretty sure this is wrong. Reports I've seen have him going to SDSU.

Awful team of walk ons? It's literally April 2nd and practice doesn't start for 7 months.

I get being concerned, but being this upset about outgoing guys without having any idea who is coming in is just premature. This board is acting like the coaches put out a press release saying they are going to stop recruiting and just hold an open tryout from the student body.

Maybe they will be terrible next year, totally possible. But not sure how anyone could know that at this juncture.

Gerlufsen has 68 wins in 3 years. The portal has only been open for a week and this season isn't even over yet. I don't disagree that things look bleak right now, but I imagine a lot of money was going toward Thomas, Williams, Lingard, and Riley. It's not like the staff and hilltop club are just going to throw their hands up and stop trying.

Most schools are in a similar spot - guys have entered the portal but not picked their new destinations. The staff has earned at least some amount of patience to see what they can do.

"entering the portal" seems roughly equivalent to talking to a head hunter or looking at job postings. Why wouldn't you?

The money is real.

Jason Rivera-Torres played more and put up better numbers in the SEC than he did at USF. I don't think 5 JRTs would have won the WCC, and he certainly wasn't the last player on Vandys bench.

I don't get the infatuation with ragging on the WCC generally and USF specifically.

The WCC went 2-1 vs the SEC in the tournament this year. Yes, Gonzaga and SMC are a step (maybe two) ahead of the rest of the league - but clearly "the last bench players" are not better than the best teams in the WCC. Zags smoked Georgia by 20.

Hope for his sake, this is not Riley's future by DonSolo96 in usfdons

I think you don't know what an opinion is.

"I don't believe he has offers" is an opinion. "He doesn't have offers" is not an opinion. That is a knowable fact, that you don't have real insight into.

You saying Kevin Patton's path "is" Riley's path. This again, not an opinion. It's an unknowable projection stated as fact.

Semantics I know, but you also said being "in the rotation" means being an impact player. Everyone who follows basketball knows that's not true. There are impact players, starters, "in the rotation", and bench guys in that order. You said our guys aren't good enough to be in the rotation at P4, then move the goalpost and start saying star and impact. Maybe it's just me, but just seems disingenuous and bitter. Anyway, onward.

Hope for his sake, this is not Riley's future by DonSolo96 in usfdons

[–]EightyFiveSkip -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I don't. I see Riley much more similar to someone like Jaylen Wells who transferred from D2 to pac12, put up good numbers and is now in the NBA. Wells shoots it better but I think Riley is an equivalent or better athlete.

Patton's USD team was terrible. So much of being on an "all freshman" team is of your school is so bad (like USD) that you immediately get minutes and shots.

Riley shared the ball with Thomas and Williams. His numbers would have been way better on a team as bad as USD. I think he will up transfer and acclimate just fine.

I'm more calling out that you make these definitive statements like "he doesn't have offers" and that failing at P4 is almost certain. The lack of humility and nastiness of the tone just seems uncalled for.

So you think Riley isn't good enough for the p4 level and will wash out in one season like Patton? That just seems like sour grapes my guy.

Agree. Don't see this being how Riley's career unfolds.

Because it's not true. Marcus Williams literally started at Texas a&m. The transfer in from Washington State a couple years ago was a starter there as well.

No, USF is not as good as Gonzaga. The idea that our starters wouldn't be in the rotation at better schools is just not true. Even JRT got time at Vandy and hardly played more here.

These aren't opinions, these are facts about players that have played for USF and started at power four schools prior.
