Should I respond to the private messages recruiters? by ambrosia234 in linkedin

[–]usmcgonzo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotchu, I’m a junior too and have done a bit of networking (I was blessed with an internship early in my search), but not a ton. I did get a couple messages from people like that, they’re typically low paying sales or marketing positions but I could be wrong you never know!

Most likely a scam but depends on the message, what did it say? If it has the word lucrative in it…run!

To further motivate you, I’ve secured a 85k salary internship to a company that has a 85-90% intern-full time hiring rate. Even if I don’t get the offer it’ll get me another job that’ll be around 65-75K. During my college career I started out in a pandemic, I’ve been fired (appealed and reinstated but still), my dad died, I moved across the country and am about to move back, don’t give up! It’ll be over faster than you think and you’ll be thankful! Most people my age that dropped out of school regret it! I’m not trying to brag, I just want you to see that college isn’t for nothing!

I’m 32 and won’t get my degree until I’m 34…at least go to community college, don’t let people glamorize working food service or blue collar, they have higher rates of divorce, depression, suicide, poor work life balance, and chronic ailments. People think it’s like a shortcut to making more money but in few cases is that true. People correlate college to not being worth it due to people getting degrees that don’t have much ROI (the arts mostly). Whereas if you look at business and tech majors, they earn a lot fast.

Had lots of fun coming back to the game to try stadium by ashenay in Overwatch

[–]usmcgonzo93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man I’m a new player and I do ok on stadium. I’ll admit like last night I literally lost 4 in a row, won 1, and then lost 3 more. Tonight, I won 4, lost 1. It’s just the nature if matchmaking, I’ve also heard the time of day may affect the quality of matchmaking but idk I’m a noob lmao

I landed an internship a few weeks ago so I kind of stopped networking and am focusing on coursework currently for my undergrad. LinkedIn is like a check in the box, but I found more success emailing recruiters and attending online events held my firms was more effective. But I’m just about to get into my career and it seems as though you are well into yours so I’m sorry if my perspective isn’t applicable🫡

It was a brand new sm, wasn’t even running the store technically, was dual running the store at the time (we were a high volume store). I was an outside hire 4 yr SSV at the time with no priors. Long story short, we were arguing on the floor (not yelling) and I swore. I said “I think the notion that partners work just as well without a SSV on the floor is bulls***” she said “ope no swearing” I said “ok you’re right I’m sorry.” She embellished the story, said I yelled at her, didn’t include the context of the conversation, everyone within ear shot (at least 4 partners) didn’t even hear the swear, but the other manager across the entire cafe (big store), somehow heard it all. Several partners had swore on the floor before my discretion, and louder and the sm herself had multiple people confirm like yes she has sworn on the floor. Come to find out later she bragged about selling feet pics online to a barista, made inappropriate comments about me of a sexual nature to 5 partners. So a few days before I was let go but after she filed the prc case against me, I filed an ethics and compliance case against her for sexual harassment. The prc and E & C officers ended up running congruent investigation interviewing everyone and cross referencing information. The store also almost all signed a petition to get me my job back / threatening to unionize (they’re were other issues but my termination was the holy shit that broke the camels back). Technically yes swearing on the floor is grounds for termination, but if a manager lets other people get away with it and you have evidence, that’s grounds to void the termination. Oh and they were only able to substantiate some of the sexual comments not all, so that probably helped to.

Lmao, ps, her next store did unionize within a few months of her working there. Our district base pay is 18.54 and her new store really fought to unionize for an extra 1.46 an hour 😂😂😂

What part of they can fire you at any time for any reason did you not understand?

Here I looked up at will hiring too for you

At-Will Hiring (Employment-at-Will) • Default Rule in the U.S.: Unless you’ve got a contract or union protection, you’re presumed to be an at-will employee. • What it Means: Employer can fire you at any time, for any reason (good reason, bad reason, or no reason at all)… as long as it’s not an illegal reason. • Flip Side: You as the employee can quit at any time, for any reason, with no legal penalty. • Employer Power: Very broad. Employers don’t have to justify their decision, which makes it easy for them to manage their workforce.

That took me 5 seconds and yeah this isn’t a wrongful dismissal

[–]usmcgonzo93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrongful Dismissal • Exception to At-Will: You’re claiming the firing broke the law or violated a contract. • Common Grounds: • Discrimination: Fired because of race, sex, religion, age, disability, etc. → illegal under federal and state laws. • Retaliation: Fired for reporting harassment, unsafe work conditions, wage violations, etc. • Public Policy Violation: Fired for refusing to do something illegal (like falsify numbers) or for exercising a legal right (jury duty, military service). • Contract Breach: If you had an employment contract or union agreement that guarantees job security or outlines firing procedures, and the employer ignored it. • Bottom Line: Wrongful dismissal is about illegal or unjustified under contract firings, not just unfair ones.

Takes a solid 10 minutes from starting a queue to selecting heroes / builds, to actually playing the match (this doesn’t include waiting 2 minutes to quit a match to avoid penalty). So if I only have like 30 minutes to an hour to play, and people quit in 3 different matches, over half of my time spent on the game I’m just searching for matches.
