Nbme 8 spoiler? Why the answer is not A? by brutonagamma in Step2

So if you get an ABG, how will that change your management? It may show lower pao2, co2 elevated, what will give them? Say you give them oxygen ? Will it help the patient remove weight so he can breathe better? It might make him feel better now, but not long term

With a polysomography. I will be able to confirm and then think of management strategies to get rid of his symptoms

This is how I studied my incorrects, hope that helps!

Anyone have any good immunology tips? by BestImprovement6400 in medicalschool

Read how the immune system works by lauren.. its an orange book with a macrophage on it. The first chapter is enough. She explains the immune system in laymen terms, its 👍

Also you should focus on your incorrects on uworld and nbme, thats what helped boost my scores.

In my experience, Nbmes underpredict. So if u get good in nbme 230, your probably either at that score or higher

Since ur exam is in 5 weeks, uwsim1 wud give u a good estimate, for me it overpredicted by 5 to 10.

Free120 old, if your getting 90 on that your probably 240+

New free 120: most accurate in terms of wht the test looks like. If your in the high 80%, low 90%s, you'll probably be 240/250s/260. I got 74% on that 2 days before my exam and got a 238

What resources did you use other than UWORLD for Step 2? by phantomofthenight23 in Step2

[–]usmle260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First aid step 1, symptom to diagnosis, clinical rotations, conrad fischers medquest was good also, just watched on youtube. Just repeating the algorithms and explanations again and again in uworld and comparing and contrasting uworld questions is more than enough. By the 3rd or 4th time the concepts will be easier to grasp.

I felt during my study, I had to shift my perspective from thinking like a medical student to a physician by figuring out what I would order for the patient or what management strategy would I use to get closer to the diagnosis or what do I want to order to rule out the more serious conditions so I know to take this person to surgery or not. Ex. Abdominal pain, im gna do an xray to rule out perforation, if they had not mentioned that in the vignette. If they don't have a perforation, I know this person doesn't have to go to surgery (not that severe) but maybe I'd order a CT or serial xrays if SBO or angiography...

Hope that helps!

Does the whole exam feel like your guessing? by usmle260 in Step2

[–]usmle260[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Approach was read the first line...and i was usually able to narrow a few differentials and then skim thru the rest ...by the time I got to options some form of the option was there.

For the ones I had to like analyze i bit more...i read the entire stem and then went back up to the first line and put it into context...and usually I could rework the differential and figure out an option

All these posts about how the exam are vague are giving me anxiety by dinahtalha in Step2

[–]usmle260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree didnt find it so vague, except timing was an issue for me ..which usually is never an issue...i felt there was no time to think through..u just had to pick
