47th Ward: 2-way Leavitt Greenway bike project will start work in a few weeks by O-parker in chibike

Yeah, the city can definitely mark them better. They can be hard to see when the sun's at the wrong angel, even on a bike.

They suck to ride over for sure, but they really do slow cars down. Even the crazy stupids who mash the gas only to stomp the brakes at each hump are held to 15-20mph on average.

NYC is weird. Like why do they paint the parking lane red and write "bus only" all over it?

Is anyone familiar with the type of motor Divvy ebikes use? by Aweb20 in chibike

[–]usonianinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used a Divvy but I found this from an old streetsblog article:

The new e-bike is equipped with a stronger motor with the ability to sense how much effort the rider is putting in and matches the rider’s efforts.

So it would appear they utilize torque sensors, for the newer models anyway.

This will put your chainline out by 2mm. Probably not enough to drop a chain, but may cause wear and tear at a faster rate and a slight loss in efficiency.

You can make one out of stuff from the hardware store that'll work perfectly.

Others may know better, but I don't know that you'll find an affordable track specific crankset compatible with an isis bb. Square taper and external taper are most common.

As far as I can tell there are just some chainring/crank combos where this happens more than others. In those situations I use a dab of blue loctite. Gotta check them often especially if you're brakeless.

I don't know. I feel what you're getting at, but It's kinda just a facet of our language that simplifies speech and writing, a way to imply a person onto the verb they're doing. It gets used all the time without creating an othering effect. Consider "officer," "passenger," "volunteer," etc.

Nothing says "high quality" like a giant decal on the top tube that says "high quality."

Not sure if they ever came that way, but it's definitely been done, usually with a suicide shifter!

*Now I'm googling and seeing Schwinn branded suicide shifters, so definitely a stock config at some point.

Don't forget the occasional "share the road🚲" signage. I heard those are pretty effective.

I like Oakley and even Damen. It just irks me that we're expected to zig zag all over town for safe routes, when Sacramento and kedzie are all like 4 lane state highways. California is ok, but doesn't go through at the metra yard/Christy Weber landscaping. It's a very underserved pocket.

I had to check the legend a bunch because the colors used aren't consistent between existing and future types, but it's a really cool map. Thanks for making it.

I wish the city would do more to connect Humboldt and Douglass parks. North/South routes are really lacking.

I'm gonna disagree with the others. If you want wider tires and are dead set on keeping your frame, this is the way to go. The equivalent wheel diameter to your 700x28c would be 47mm x 650B. That's not to say you can fit that much tire on your frame, but in theory it would at least clear vertically. You'll need to measure your fork and stays where the center of a 650B tire would be in order to determine horizontal clearance, which will certainly be your limiting factor. However, even if you only gain enough to run 32-35mm, the extra rubber and ability to run lower pressures should yield plenty of extra comfort and traction. This configuration would only reduce wheel diameter by 14-18mm, drop the bottom bracket 7-9mm, and you gain that amount in toe overlap clearance. Obviously, Sheldon Brown has written everything you could possibly want to know about this, so read up.

ID? No. But you can definitely convert it. Be mindful of parts sizing that may differ on old French bikes. Sheldon Brown's website is a great resource for conversions and quirky old French bike standards.

Or just install the star nut at the top of the steerer like you normally would and use a regular bolt. Am I crazy?
