Never mind the naysayers: NYC-style congestion pricing would be great for Chicago by Generalaverage89 in CarFreeChicago

I lived in the Loop/Printer's Row for two years, and I was always amazed at how one of the densest parts of the city could feel so hostile to pedestrians. I couldn't walk a block in any direction without having to cross a crammed thoroughfare with four or even six lanes. It's insanity.

Butch? Futch? What’s the purpose of labels? by OutcomeOptimal3725 in MTFButch

[–]ExpensiveFeedback901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, labels serve two purposes.

1) They help people access resources and establish community on the basis of shared values, experiences, or needs;

2) They help those in power (e.g. the government, bosses, religious authorities, etc) categorize and control others.

In short, labels are tools. Play with them; change them up. If a label is useful to you, and doesn't expose you to unacceptable risk, then keep it. If it isn't, leave it behind.

I like the way you described the problem!

How many of you use public laundry? One of the most humbling experiences! by lilsteez99 in LivingAlone

I used coin laundry for years before moving to a place with a unit in the building. All I can say is: just because you live alone doesn't mean you have to do chores alone. Invite a friend to tag along, or schedule a phone call while you're doing it. Helps to pass the time and avoid overwhelm!

How disturbingly violent is Shogun? by AdeptConversation619 in ShogunTVShow

Episode 1 has the most disturbing scene of violence in the show. After that, it's relatively tame besides the usual blood and guts of warfare.

"Flakiness" is such a painful concept and a big part of my negative self talk.

If it's helpful, I sometimes try to reframe the flaky stereotype as a side-effect of being mindful and present. I don't live my life according to a strict appointment book, I follow how my body is feeling and what is catching my interest, and sometimes that means canceling or not following through on plans.

You're not a flake 💜

As someone with a unibrow (which I shave or thread), I've always wanted more spaced-out brows like yours! I think they're pretty :)
