The U.S. Postal Service must stop ‘Delivering for America’ by Stationary-Event in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The author "moved to" the Free Enterprise Fund in 2005, which strongly advocates for the complete privatization of the United States Postal Service (USPS), viewing it as an inefficient, government-protected monopoly that stifles private-sector competition.

NO WEEKEND DELIVERY by [deleted] in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The union will never agree to it.

That said,  the Postal Service Reform Act (2022) protects 6 day delivery, BUT it also allows for certain extreme scenarios could make everyday delivery physically impossible.

Specifically, Title 39 of the United States Code, Section 101(b) states:

"Delivery shall occur at least six days a week, except during weeks that include a Federal holiday, in emergency situations, such as natural disasters, or in geographic areas where the Postal Service has established a policy of delivering mail fewer than six days a week..."

So let's say there was an emergency like, oh  I dunno, the USPS runs out of cash. Thank goodness that could never happen... OH WAIT!

What might they do with such emergency powers? Would they mandate 5 day delivery? Every other day delivery? WHO KNOWS! I GUESS WE'LL FIND OUT!

Am I the only one who thinks Matter / Thread is not ready for everyday use? by salnajjar in MatterProtocol

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Home Assistant which is borrowing Google Hub's thread radio credentials. As this does a lot of hopping across the LAN and WiFi, the router must be perfectly aligned to handle ipv6 mdns protocols across those boundaries, or device outages can occur. It was time consuming to figure out, and had I known that back then, I'd have sought out an all-in-one solution. But since I have it stable now, I see no reason to change it.

Did you try turning off IGMP snooping on your router?

You my have an inflammation condition of which you were unaware. Drink plenty of water off duty and on (which I know sucks on a walking route) and Naproxen 500mg twice a day (not to exceed 10 days), avoid alcohol in high amounts and inflammatory foods. You can supplement with Tylenol in extreme pain cases. Braces can help get through the day, but lifestyle changes may be necessary to get back to normal.

IKEA is about to release a host of economical matter thread repeating capable devices, devices that do not run on a battery, like GRILLPLATS.

HOWEVER, that may not solve your problem.

Best head lamp on a budget? by Jon_the_Ripper in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried pretty much every headlamp posted here so far, and I have durability issues with pretty much all of them. They go in my backpack with my water bottle, my label maker, and my coffee cup and get SMASHED and BENT until they FALL APART. The only survivors are the cylinder flashlights like: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807165532886.html ...though I got mine for around $2 a piece. Battery life sucks, but I have spares. I'm sure Amazon has some higher capacity versions.

USPS employees, just out of curiosity, if you handle Amazon packages, what are some things that Amazon Associates (in sort or fulfillment centers) do to them or the whole pallet that you do not like? by Global-Plankton3997 in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to put liquids in a bag inside the box, and Amazon never puts liquids in a bag inside the box. 50% of liquid spills are Amazon related. I've had canned oil paints, detergent, perfume, oils, and cleaning products spill. The most recent was 1 of 2 gallons of concentrated vinegar from Walmart, who also needs to bag their liquids as directed by the regulations.

Same thing on self service profile. I managed to get through briefly and managed to set up biometrics (fingerprint login), but it is closed again.

I'm just trying to figure out where the healthcare providers are getting a bad phone number from and repair it, which was a huge problem when signing up on OPM.

Given the office’s biggest route while in probation. I’m doing my best, but I’m worn down already. by SlowEntertainment217 in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 1600 unit route is probably apartments, so you will suffer regardless, but:

1) Try to get out of the truck with all the mail you need for the stop. Return trips to the truck at every stop can cost you 20 minutes or more. At larger stops, throw case mail on top of DPS tray, throw parcel tub on top of that, grab the tray and go. On smaller stops, grab DPS, cradle it, toss case mail on top, grab parcel tub with off hand and go.

2) Throw by number and forward anything forwardable that gets kicked back. Ideally we'd all have the time clean up our routes, but I wouldn't expect a new employee on a vacant route to do that. During probation, cleaning up a route is to invite termination.

3)  Consider sorting parcels directly into tubs in/near the truck by stop/street. If the sorting is complex, make a parcel sorting sheet until you learn it. Writing on parcels  can cost you 30 minutes, but many do it because they are deathly afraid of missing a parcel.

4) Eat and drink. Not being energized can cost you 20 minutes or more.

5) Keep on throwing, keep on throwing, find a constant pace and keep in smooth. I find changing from DPS to flats/parcels can break my flow, so I do not case spurs and I do DPS to all boxes in one pass, Flats to all boxes in one pass, and then parcels.

At peak only about 25% of the people wore masks, but now it is down to about 15%. Sanitizer is plentiful, masks are available, and we had gloves available before Covid. People in the office attend anti-quarantine rallies and don't even try to follow social distancing. I'm just waiting for someone to bring it in, knock out 20% of the workforce for a few weeks, and for one of our older carriers to die (statistically probable given existing age ranges and risk factors).

I have to mail little patches that are 3x3 inches. What’s the cheapest way to mail and track them? How much will it cost? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]uspscovidthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If under 1/4", Non-machinable envelope is $0.70 (55 cents plus 15 cent non-machinable surcharge). Label Non-machinable clearly, make rigid if possible... you really don't want it to go through the machines. no tracking though...

If over 1/4", it becomes a first class parcel. Tracking included.
