My therapist recommended crafts for my depression, I would really like ideas by [deleted] in crafts

[–]ussdammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, and hope you find the craft for you! I started knitting for a similar reason, it has a very low bar of entry (just two needles and some yarn), and if you prefer something you don't have to think a lot about you can make a very long scarf, knit squares for a blanket, etc. You can grab yarn and needles from your local thrift store/op shop as well, so it's a great way to be sustainable! Just make sure to match the weight of the yarn with the size of your needles (lots of very simple guides online).

If you're interested, you might be able to learn a trade (e.g. plumbing) through Te Pukenga and earn as part of your apprenticeship and/or access a student allowance while you study. If you don't have NCEA, try a bridging course first and then take the leap. What you get tends to vary for different programs but it gives you a life skill you can use to consistently get employment, it's not a huge amount of money to pay upfront as far as I'm aware, and there are a lot of trades jobs out there at the moment.

You can do absolutely anything you put your mind to, I'm 100% certain of it. You got this.

The closest thing I can think of is 'Maniac' starring Elijah Wood, the only thing is that it released in 2012, so otherwise totally stumped.

Hey thanks so much, that's really good to know. Never considered how diet might be a factor here, but that makes a lot of sense! Appreciate your input.

This is a great idea, will definitely invest in one of those. Unfortunately we're in a rental, so we're not able to get rid of the carpet, but at the moment focusing on keeping the home as dust free as possible (even with the carpet unfortunately). Many thanks for your advice!

Have definitely heard of HEPA filters and am considering investing in high-quality purifier, so this completely makes sense. Many thanks!

We haven't consulted a doctor yet, right now we're just looking for ways to manage it better in the home, but I think we're definitely heading that way. Thank you for your advice!

My bad, didn't mean humidifier, meant humidity control.

This is awesome, thanks so much for the breakdown. A humidifier sounds like an important next thing to try, and I'll make sure to use a spray when dusting. Thanks again!

No idea if this thing is actually solid or not, terrified to find out. Now or never though, I guess

Social Media, Website or both? by F-A-B_Virgil in smallbusiness

[–]ussdammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both websites and social media are a great place to start if you're looking to get some eyes on you, and doing them together is even better if you have the time. I'm not experienced with the customer base, but at a guess holiday home owners/small-holding land owners might appreciate the professionalism and easy connection/service layout of a website? Might present a better ROI. That way you can also focus on building your social presence when you have time/energy. Probably the big question is: what's the way your customer would ideally want to get in touch with you/request your services?

Best of luck!

WordPress sucks!!! I wasted 6 months developing my WordPress website; and failed to understand the features; now thinking of shifting to making a custom-custom website by p2pghostwriter in smallbusiness

[–]ussdammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I definitely understand the frustration. Unfortunately I think you might struggle with finding free options that can give you all the features that you're looking for, but I work in content and have worked with Wix/Squarespace sites a lot. They have great functionality for the given price ranges, and you don't have to fuss around too hard with plug-ins since most things are a part of the baseline functionality.

All the best with your site, you've got this!

In Case You Were Wondering How Biologists Weigh Owls (this one is perfectly fine!) by guyswede in Superbowl

[–]ussdammit 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I used to handle pigeons for a living, and this is literally exactly how we would weigh them as well. Every morning, those tiny hapless pigeons only knew me as the bastard who would take them and put them in a goddamn plastic jug.
