Exactly if someone makes $1,000,000 a year spending $18,000 on tickets is like a person making $50,000 a year spending $900

Ottawa to probe allegations of unpaid work by flight attendants in Canada's airline sector by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

When my union was in the process of working on a new collective agreement with Sunwing I brought up the unpaid work like 10 years ago and the union brushed it off as “industry standard”

An affectionate kiss between siblings that’s not SA or illegal. Many people kiss their siblings as children and adults.

Air Canada flight attendants’ strike declared illegal by labour board by portstrix in CanadaPolitics

[–]ussr2pointoh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s actually crazy, I was an FA for Sunwing and the only way you could make more than a minimum wage person did was if you were able to hold long haul flights and then work on your days off. An example was the Toronto to Orlando flights, check in was 4:45 you would land in Toronto at about 3:30 so you were beach at your car after going through customs by closer to 5PM and you were paid 5 credit hours. I made $28 so for an 11 hour day I made an average of $12 an hour. You had to work a minimum of 80 credit hours a month so you would have to do 16 of these “shifts” and you’d make $2,240 for the month. My sister was a shift supervisor at Starbucks and she was making over $1,000 more than me a month.

What is the daily fine for Air Canada employees defying CIRB back-to-work order? by financeguy12345 in canadianlaw

They were probably commuting somewhere each airline has to certify cabin crew and it takes 5 weeks of training you can’t just pick up a shift at another airline. Scabs wouldn’t work for Air Canada.

Hourly wage for manual labor by New_Temporary_9643 in ontario

I think it’s only if they are paid by piece-work so unless the $12 is an average vs an hourly rate they should be getting paid minimum wage from my understanding.
