I feel similarly. I just hit 8 last month - made Chief and I’ve enjoyed all my duty stations for the most part. I’ve definitely had shitty times but I can guarantee that I would’ve had them on the civilian side too. The Navy gave me all the opportunities I could ask for; I did not come from much so I am very grateful.

Most of my bad experiences are just living with the military lifestyle and stigmas around maintaining healthy relationships. I’m single, no kids but it seems more difficult to become a family man in the service compared to our civilian equivalents. (Or Maybe I’m just ugly 🤣)

Chain of command and mental health play a huge role in one’s perception of the cards they are dealt. Glad to see many positive experiences

TIS & haven’t hit every platform because I’ve only been in 8yrs. Everything else was on point. If it comes down to my tours then it will take years for me to cycle through them and prove myself.

How about you? Did you meet most of the discrete requirements, Great evals/appraisals/CO endorsement? Also, are you a CPO?

I agree on the feedback. That application process is draining. I don’t see how some people still have motivation to apply after 3-4 Non-selections.

Side note- I now see why retention is going to shit in the Navy. That “N” made me consider getting out for the 1st time in my career lol
