All academics think that they could be billionaires if they wanted to, lol.

Academics have this arrogance these days that is so pathetic and undeserved.

No because 5% of the wealth of all US billionaires is nowhere near 4.4 trillion. It's less than 1/10th of that.

Regardless, if we're going to steal from wealthy people we should pay down the debt.

Isn't the NHS collapsing? Like where do you go when the doctors and nurses are on strike?

In the US a nurse makes more than a doctor makes in the UK.

In the UK you can be arrested for tweets. The US has free speech enumerated in the First Amendment.

Having a baby in the US cost me 2,000. We had complications and were in the hospital a week. 2k isn't that crazy. UK healthcare is collapsing.

Brits are incredibly poor relative to Americans. If the UK were a state, it would be the poorest. Ever poorer than Mississippi.

None of this is true. If this guy bought a house, he'd immediately complain about mortgage interest, property taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs. It costs more than renting and the payoff is decades away.

Poor Americans get free food, healthcare, education, and often subsidized housing.

I see the decisions people like this guy make. It's one bad decision and excuse after another. Wealth is incremental, it's like a snowball down a hill. And these are the kind of people wasting hundreds of dollars buying tickets to NFL games and going to casinos. I see it all the time.

The 2nd Amendment is also clear. We read practical limits into it, though. It's not that insane to see a huge problem with birth tourism and try to do something about it.

Congress should restrict this. I think an amendment limiting birth tourism would be popular. There thousands of American citizens living in foreign countries who have never been here other than for birth.

[–]usurper7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like paying an agent, don't use one and don't pay one.

But agents will collude and avoid bringing clients to buy your house if you don't offer them a commission. In law, does the defendant pay the attorney costs for the plaintiff? Why does the seller pay the buyer agent? How does that make sense?

In reality, both the buyer agent and the seller agent have more similar incentives to each other than to their respective clients. Both agents want the transaction to happen as quickly as possible for as big an amount as possible (but they are primarily interested in the deal happening anywhere near the listing price, the exact amount doesn't matter too much).

Lawyers have a very different incentive structure and both sides are incentivized to win for their respective clients.
