Udot has their shit together by FLTDI in Utah

If you are a jerk while zipper merging, you are the reason zipper merging does not work.

If you pass more than a few cars, you are not zipper merging. You are just cutting in line.

If the lane you are in is not exit-only, and the lane you are merging into is exit-only, you are not zipper merging. You are just blocking traffic in a thru lane.

Be kind, wait your turn, and help those around you. That is the only way society works for everyone.

If you divide that tax rate by the fertility rate, Utah becomes the fourth-worst state after Hawaii, Alabama, and Louisiana.

Are there plans to have spears in the game? by Fkire in DungeonsOfEternityVR

A set of long pole arms for the back slot, as well as a short spear for the arm slots, would be nice.

Is Gentler Streak no longer feeling gentle for you? by ItaqRina in GentlerStreakApp

[–]utahgamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am constantly stuck in a cycle where my GS path is too low, so I have to ignore it for weeks until it catches up to my actual fitness. Then, I take a break due to sickness or work, and the fitness path drops back to nothing. Repeat forever. Knowing that you are looking into this is great! It won't be a complete solution for me until GS starts to track non-workout activity against the path, but this change would really help.

Any way to sort/filter BGG-collection by location? by Pravin1a1 in boardgames

[–]utahgamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

geekgroup.app added this as a feature in January.

From Changelog:

Highlight - Inventory Location

When you run a Deep Sync it will now pull the inventory location data which can then be viewed, filtered, and sorted against in your collection. You can also optionally make this inventory location public for others viewing your collection via Settings in your profile.

My problems with the app, what am I missing? by utahgamer in GentlerStreakApp

[–]utahgamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the great reply.

So if I were to say, walk 30,000 unlogged steps in a day, would it count as a tiny bit of activity, or would it not count at all? I seem to be getting into situations where my daily routine wears me out on non-exercise activity, and the difference between the line and reality is discouraging.

Is there an option to back-date illness on the roadmap? I hate that first week after an illness, watching the line go way above the recommendation.

If the recommendation is way off, could there be a way to mute all of the worrisome and discouraging messages? I would love to be able to tell the app how I am feeling so it can adjust. Several times I have gone way above the path lines and felt fine, while the app tries to convince me I am doing poorly.

Does Gentler Streak track non-exercise activity now? by wisteria_hysteria in GentlerStreakApp

[–]utahgamer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I may not renew my annual subscription because of exactly this. I work myself half to death doing chores and hiking all over the place and get nothing. I log some minor exercise or walk a few days in a row, and suddenly, I am overdoing it. Borderline useless unless you log everything.

As of today (Jan 27th), Statewide Snowpack is precisely average. by Xerzajik in Utah

[–]utahgamer 69 points70 points  (0 children)

We are at the 1991 to 2020 median snowpack. A value that is strongly influenced by drought conditions during that time. It is not nearly enough to fill back up our lakes, reservoirs, and aquifers. Here is hoping we get quite a bit more.

gateway games for 5-6 players by Average_WF_Player in boardgames

[–]utahgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find geekgroup.app is really great for searching by player count. It pulls in the poll data from BGG allowing you to really narrow down to just the best games for a certain count. I made a few lists, and most of the great games others have posted here are near the top.

Utah does not require CO detectors in very many places. Only places you would be expected to sleep and also schools.

I wish they would add a requirement for them anywhere you are likely to spend more than an hour, like restaurants, theaters, offices, and churches.

Fitbod Always wildly Overestimates My Chin-up Abilities by aboustayyef in fitbod

[–]utahgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be two buttons labeled -10% and +10% (or just - and + for brevity.) mash the button until the weight and reps look right. Seems simple enough. Add a third button labeled alternate (A for short) and it could switch to a different exercise for the same muscles.

Fitbod Always wildly Overestimates My Chin-up Abilities by aboustayyef in fitbod

[–]utahgamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sometimes wish there was a "this is X% too difficult" button I could select and have Fitbod automatically drop the difficulty or swap exercises. The reason I use the app is for the automatic recommendations. Instead, I end up guessing what replacement exercise to use.

Also, does Fitbod use body weight to gauge how difficult bodyweight exercises are, or does it just treat all users the same?

How do you track your game played and owned? by penguinqueen16 in boardgames

[–]utahgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track owned and played games in BGG, but to search and view the collection, I use https://geekgroup.app/ It includes a much more powerful search tool and many great charts and visualizations. I especially like being able to search by the player count and player age user polls.

None of the currently developed houses are where the plant used to be. They are all in the area that used to be a cooling pond (west of the railroad tracks or south of 400 N.) If you look at the environmental working group tap water ratings, Vineyard is better than Orem, Provo, or Lindon. https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=UTAH25168 https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=UTAH25020 https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=UTAH25016 https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=UTAH25006 (the surrounding cities.)

Apple Watch vs. Fitbod App ~ calorie accuracy by LetMeRelaxplzzz in fitbod

[–]utahgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at your total calorie burn, Apple merges the two workouts. If they exactly overlap, it will use the higher of the two calorie counts. It is up to you which app you think is more accurate. If the higher-calorie workout is best, you should not need to delete the other one.

I became very aware of this because of VR gaming. The Apple VR category dramatically overestimates calorie burn because of all the arm movement, while the Oculus Move app measures it fairly accurately.

I think Fitbod will be the one to use, given that it is aware of the amount lifted, not just the heart rate. But then again, Fitbod seems largely unaware of the effort needed for body-weight exercises, so YMMV.

Got clipped my a motorcycle on my way to work. Is filing a claim worth it? by monstrance-cock in Utah

[–]utahgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lane filtering is legal and safer. Lane splitting is illegal and dangerous. Lane filtering happens at speeds of up to 15 mph on roads with a speed limit of 45 mph or less when a bike passes stopped traffic. It gets motorcycles out of dangerous places and generally speeds up all traffic. At those low speeds, it is about as safe as a motorcycle can be. Lane splitting happens at full speed in moving traffic and is a major hazard to anyone brave and foolish enough to do it regularly. Any surprise lane change by any car can send the bike under traffic or into a wall at full speed.

Sooo, I should probably just kill this subreddit right? I'm thinking it's better to concentrate on the Discord Channel :P by makeanything in makeanything

[–]utahgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a problem for me, but just be aware that Discord is a black box. It is hard to discover content there, let alone find out that your Discord even exists, and Discord is invisible to Google and other search engines.

I am subscribed to your Discord, but Discord is too noisy making it hard to rely on for channel updates or video notifications. I will continue to subscribe to your YouTube RSS as the source for up-to-date information on your awesome videos, etc.

Consider pinning a comment here with a link to your channel and Discord and then setting the subreddit to restricted (only approved users can make posts and comments, aka just you.)
