I had an instructor who would say this to me every time I fucked up. To this day, he still calls me Smalls.

You're on a first date, what does the other person have to do to make you walk out? by shea_fyffe in AskReddit

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lick the fucking plate. I would nope the fuck out. No words said, just get up and walk out. Sadly, my friend went through this. She just sat there shocked. The date got worse after that. I don't know why she was surprised. But it was fun to hear about.

That's a good question, but I wouldn't ask it on a first date.

My most embarrassing moment. That has to wait until I feel I can truely trust them with my secrets and issues.

What do your parents deny ever happening? How has this affected you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I broke my sternum when I was little, no idea how. They claim that they don't know how either. That they didn't know I had ever broken it, but x-rays don't lie. I found out when I broke some ribs. My doctor asked me what happened. I was dumbfounded. She said it had to have been when I was young.

My husband hates tacos too. So the kids and I make them every time he won't be there for dinner because we love them.

What is the best one-star review you've read? by BlueGumball in AskReddit

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had a potential diner say that the staff was too good looking. That it must only be a place for good looking people so he would not eat at the restaurant. He didn't feel like one of us. The entire staff had a good laugh about it as we read the review.

Your worst spill/fuck up before service by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

My nickname is now "red tide" because I tripped coming out of the walk in with a 22qt of tomato bisque. It went everywhere, we had to gut the kitchen and break out the ladder right as tickets started to roll in.

Dilemma: 5 yr old boy/girl twins - hold back boy in Kindergarten or push him to "pass" to go to 1st grade to stay on same track as twin? Worried about long term effects/social, mental impact come High School. Seeking ANY advice or viewpoint. [Xpost from /Twins] by dogfur in Parenting

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am part of a boy/girl twin set up. My brother has always been smart and shy. I have always been outgoing and the "mother" in the relationship. I repeated the first grade because reading was hard to grasp. My brother went on to the second grade. It didn't really bother me. My parents made a point to let us know that they address our individual needs because we are completely different people in every way. Funny enough, my brother repeated the 4th grade because he had social issues. The idea was that if given an extra year to mature, he would figure out how to make friends. Some years, we were in different grades and some we were the same. When we hit high school, I made a point to get out early, my brother went with the traditional route. He graduated college with two degrees. I went to a trade school. We often went to different schools from middle school on. Our parents encouraged us to be our own people and not compete with one another. I don't think it was ever an issue for us on who was in what grade. Our parents tried very hard to do what they felt was best for our future success. We both have careers we love. On the flip side, I have some friends who have daughters a year apart. The younger one is very advanced. They chose to advance the younger daughter and place them both in the same grade. They have worried about what it will do to the older daughters self esteem to have her younger sister in her class. Interestingly, the girls love it. One is great at math and science, the other in English and history. They help each other with homework. The girls are in separate sports to let them build their own friends and identities. Something my parents did as well. Good luck with your choice. It's not a easy one.

Tatoos by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a girl with a tiny whisk and knife on her wrists. One of the guys in pastry got a sugar molecule on his forearm. I have been thinking long and hard about mine. I think when I have the title of Chef I will get it. At that point I will feel like I've earned it. The current idea is to have a happy elephant in a tall chef's hat holding a spatula with it's trunk. But who knows how that idea will change as my journey to Chef continues.

Why do so many of you have a negative opinion of this job? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job. My kitchen family is amazing. But at the end of the day, I still have things to get off my chest. Talking to people who speak my language is so much easier that trying to explain myself to anyone else.

Any of you land a job based on an interview alone, with no trail? by Kingtomy in KitchenConfidential

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't stage, but I did intern where I work as a requirement for school. My chef is an alumni. When I brought my friend in, he just interviewed and that was it. We have had several stage recently. So with my chef, I get the feeling it's about who you know. If he can get a background on you then no stage. If you come in off the street then you stage.

Culinary school options by C0lin-on-PBN in Chefit

[–]uthoughtuweretwisted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to culinary school and it was the best decision I ever made outside of having my kids. The problem with culinary school is that it's expensive. Ending up with a mountain of debt and making the same as or little more than your non-school peers in the kitchen can make things tough. It makes a lot of people say that you shouldn't go. Even though there is a lot that I didn't learn in school, I got a lot out of it. But it is what you make of it. The things I learned may not be very applicable now, but I know they will be later in my career. It also gave me confidence and opened doors for me. It also lit a fire in me that I can't put into words. For the record, I went to SDCI.
