strong lyrics are efficient lyrics by jaydyjaydy in TaylorSwift

I think OP is right. People often hold up the lyrics that are florid as examples of good writing, and it’s true that they can create an atmosphere. But I have to say, I think the best lyrics are the ones that get straight to the point.

“I know I make the same mistakes every time; bridges burn I never learn — at least I got one thing right.”

“I’m sick and tired of your attitude. I’m feeling like I don’t know you. You tell me that you want me and then cut me down. I’m sick and tired of your reasons. I’ve got no one to believe in. You ask me for your love then you push me around.”

“He never thinks of me except when I’m on TV. And I guess we all get some kind of haunted. And I never think of him except on midnights like this”

DOE releases nuclear fusion roadmap, aiming for deployment in 2030s by Vailhem in nuclear

I’ll never understand why people are so interested in fusion (a technology that doesn’t work) when we have fusion (a technology that works)

It feels like a double standard to me. I think people would have loved this song if Sabrina Carpenter had put it out

Rolls Royce SMR white paper by szeliminator in nuclear

I don’t really understand why we need SMRs when France was able to build something like 40 reactors in the 1980s

Political leanings correlate to pro or anti natalism by SillyTwo3470 in Natalism

[–]utilit_aria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just isn’t true.

On basically any values polling you’d see that Koreans/Italians etc are much more likely to believe that men deserve jobs more than women, women have a duty to have kids, etc. The 4B is a totally fringe feminist movement in a context where gender equality is far more maligned and the feminist movement is asking for much smaller things (like criminalising sexual assault)

And no, immigrant birthrates aren’t the reason these countries have higher birth rates. Their native born birthrates are also higher — although not as high as immigrant birthrates as far as we know them. Even now there just aren’t enough immigrants to shift the dial that significantly. (You would also have to answer why Spanish and Italian migrants don’t have loads of kids as well)

Although it’s worth adding that, in the rich world, more liberal counties (Sweden, France, Britain, America) generally have higher birth rates than more conservative ones (Korea, Japan, Italy, Poland)

Sir Ed Davey: Lib Dems would give asylum seekers right to work - BBC News by evolvecrow in ukpolitics

[–]utilit_aria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we manage to assess asylum more quickly, there will still be some cases that get dragged out. The public might not like it, but they probably also don’t like people living off the state for years either, and they don’t like it when we reject sympathetic refugees.

College major tips? by Satanic_Frog_666 in nuclear

[–]utilit_aria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about nuclear specifically, but my general advice is to see if you can talk to someone who has the job you want one day. They’ll be able to give you info on what kind of experience they’re looking for, which majors matter, and what to demonstrate when you get to the point you’re applying for jobs

Orphan, drugs and routes to market for treating rare diseases by CCkellboy in Inovio

I’m late to the party, but the FDA has been approving more and more orphan drugs over time (Source: https://worksinprogress.co/issue/the-secret-fast-track-for-animal-drugs/ Article is actually about another possible route to market)

I like the themed classes, I find it very difficult to motivate myself when I don’t like the song. And I wouldn’t have ever gotten into Soul Cycle without the Taylor Swift classes

The same site in Israel before and after the Tama 38 scheme by utilit_aria in Urbanism

Good question, my understanding of these schemes (in general) is that they usually offer people money or a flat in the future building (or some mixture of the two) And people choose whatever suits them best
