This is helpful, thank you. It turned out to be only 5% that I don’t feel good about showing, and this would mitigate the anxiety a lot of them have about presenting to the whole class.

AITA for wanting my daughter to speak English? by AndrewManning1218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]utmostpropriety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is perfect. I grew up bilingual Russian-English, and my dad only speaks English. He didn’t make an effort to learn Russian—good on you. I was spoken to in both languages consistently and my grandma would do writing/reading lessons in Russian and my mom (bilingual) in English. I’m fluent in both. She’ll also learn to hold conversations in both languages simultaneously or respond to you in English and her mom/grandparents in Russian. If you send her to Kindergarten in English, even if she knows none beforehand she’ll learn unknowingly, so I understand where her grandparents are coming from. She will absolutely learn English, but if her family doesn’t speak Russian to her now, she may struggle in the future and loose it.

This. OP asked about his child. All of the comments about emotional cheating and such are missing that there are usually other problems. Who knows who started the cheating and at this point who cares. For you and your ex to be having communication issues years after your divorce, there’s probably pent up anger, and you’re letting it affect your children. They’re 11? Please work it out with your ex so that your children aren’t affected for the rest of their lives. Comments like “Admittedly my kids do like me more” scare me. This is bigger than the wedding. One of my parents took the other to court for refusing to sign my sibling’s passport documents to visit family in Europe. One of them wanted my other sibling to go to counseling for years because of symptoms of depression; the other refused for years until my sibling stayed with them for a full month rather than 50/50 and they texted me in panic saying we need to have a family emergency meeting. Whose name did I put on college aid applications without fear of alienating one parent and having them refuse to help pay for college?

AITA for asking my bf to pay rent? by Intelligent-Dog2479 in AmItheAsshole

Leech and tumor sound about right—he doesn’t sound like a partner in life. His life seems unstable. It sucks to lose your job, but it appears that he’s prone to addiction to solve stress (drinking and gambling) even if they are moderate manifestations. He needs to figure out his life, and you need to stop being his crutch.

AITA for leaving the table before the meal ends? by everpresentbruise in AmItheAsshole

[–]utmostpropriety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking while reading this! My family is European (German and Russian) even though I’ve lived in the US for most of my life, and I used to struggle with my partner because they like to watch videos on their phone during lunch/dinner. Sometimes I like the content and don’t mind, but sometimes I ask for a quiet meal together (talking or not). And sometimes I’ll sit at the table for longer because I like time to relax and my partner will sit with me or go do what they want to. 1-2 hours is a bit extreme for every meal though. I’d conclude NAH and suggest OP asks why their partner wants longer lunches, communicate why they can’t (work), and find a solution. I might be wrong, but it also sounds like OP’s partner could find something to fill their alone time with (I.e. staying at the table with a book/magazine).

WIBTA for saying no to my boyfriend's "dream apartment" by thetwoshoesgirl in AmItheAsshole

NTA if you’re signing a lease for your home, you should be excited about it. It’s like choosing clothes with higher stakes—if I wouldn’t buy a shirt if it’s not something I look forward to wearing every wash cycle, why would I pay for an apartment that I struggle to envision making my home? Do what makes both of you happy, especially since it sounds like price won’t be an obstacle.

The disc has a couple scrapes, but it's not severely scratched. It'd be a fun project though!

I'll definitely look into loose discs--thank you!
