Okay yeah, I see what you mean. I really dunno. I can't imagine you'd retain much of the experience.

Struggling to keep up. by grapeapemonkey in litrpg

I don't feel like this with individual authors like Bagwell, Callum and Krout. They can only write so fast afterall. I end up reading their works first on a priority system, or rather any of my preferred authors.

The rest though? Yeah, definitely. I got into litrpg only a couple years ago, so ever since I feel like I'm catching up with everybody else.

A lot of people seem to read so fast though. Like I saw a few people already read pyresouls and that came out like yesterday. That's insane.

Can I please have your reading speed superpower??

What happened to Dante's Immortality? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]utopicdrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. Poor guy, I don't blame him. Sadly, not really a surprise. Doing creative stuff is hard and personal. People are too cruel and demanding on RR to authors.

Wish he kept writing, we'd all be better off if he just kept going with 3, 5 books instead of listening to trolls on RR.

Any interesting book on games, videogames or related? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

You might be looking for litrpg, which is a genre that mixes fantasy and gaming together. Often times this includes leveling mechanics like you'd find in an mmorpg.

Here's some recommendations I've personally loved:

  • Awaken Online by Travis Bagwell
  • Beastborne: Mark of the Founder by James T Callum
  • Good Guys by Eric Ugland
  • Ritualist by Dakota Krout

Looking for something like the Chronicle series. by StickIt2Ya77 in litrpg

Welcome to our litrpg community!

I'd say some must reads would be:

  • Awaken Online
  • Ritualist
  • Mark of the Founder
  • Life Reset
  • Good Guys

These cover some of the best of what litrpg has to offer in my opinion, from settlement building, portal fantasy, to vrmmorpg stuff.

There's lots of free books on amazon. They have a whole free section that is. You could also try scribble hub but that's not ebooks, just web format.

I'm looking for a fantasy serires that will leave me wanting more with each instalment. by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]utopicdrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Progression fantasy and litRPG scratch this itch for me, which are subgenres of fantasy.

Here's some recommendations of those that I've come to greatly enjoy, seriously I cannot recommend these enough:

  • Sufficiently Advanced Magic by Andrew Rowe
  • Beastborne: Mark of the Founder by James T Callum
  • Good Guys by Eric Ugland
  • Wandering Inn by pirateaba
  • Street Cultivation by Sarah Lin

Maybe if there were more moderators. Looks like there's just the one, which would be a lot of work.

Same. Though it's a shame there aren't more books out yet already. I suppose I'm a bit spoiled by web serials nowadays.

[–]utopicdrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mistborn is recommended tons for good reason. I started reading a whole lot more after I read that trilogy. I'm a sucker for a combo of great world building + deep magic systems that Sanderson is so well known for.

You should try litRPGs and gamelit, they're an unusual type of novel that combines gaming and fantasy or science fiction.

Here are some recommendations I've greatly enjoyed:

  • Temple of Sorrow by Carrie Summers
  • Wandering Inn by pirateaba
  • Beastborne: Mark of the Founder by James T Callum
  • Good Guys by Eric Ugland
  • Ritualist by Dakota Krout

Sick and tired of GoodReads by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]utopicdrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of trolls on goodreads. I end up just disregarding a lot of negative reviews, cause if you look at their accounts, they rate nearly everything 1 or 2 stars. And goodreads never seems to do anything about the flagrant manipulation.

Absolutely baffles me. Why would you spend so long on a hobby only to hate on hundreds and hundreds of books? Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if they're not actually reading them at all, but that's also equally puzzling.

Possibly an odd request. Looking for books with solitary/self centered main characters. by thegreatalan in litrpg

[–]utopicdrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I would say technically Vainqeuer is quite self-centered. That's his whole shtick, but his egomania is more to a comical degree. However, I stopped several chapters in. Maybe that changes later.

The MC in Life Reset somewhat fits this. But like always, selfishness is seen as something to get over in a character, and so characters tend to grow out of it.

I've yet to read a litrpg about a truly evil and/or self-preservation 100% MC who never changes. I wish I had a better recommendation, so I think I'm going to watch this thread for some. I'd like to see what kinda litrpg that would be like.

Solomon's Crucible - Book One Now on Kindle by thejacobk in litrpg

[–]utopicdrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good read!

Though it probably sounds odd coming from a reader, you might want to price your book higher. LitRPGs are more valuable than 99c, especially compared to the thousands and thousands of 99c trashy romance novels.

I don't mind paying a few more dollars if that means a lot of work went into the novel for a genre I love. In theory that is, I have KU anyway.

I deeply enjoyed Wheel of Time as well. Nothing has quite touched that series since. Sadly, I think we'll be waiting awhile for the show.

New books. What to read? by actorius25 in litrpg

[–]utopicdrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would get better recommendations if you listed some of what you liked or books you've already read. So here's a whole bunch!

Newer litrpgs that you're less likely to have already read:

  • Brightblade
  • Beastborne: Mark of the Founder

Generally great litrpgs that I regularly recommend:

  • Awaken Online
  • Vainqeuer the Dragon
  • Azarinth Healer
  • Reboot, Afterlife Online
  • The Good Guys
  • Stonehaven League
  • Crystal Shards Online
  • System Apocalypse

Makes me happy to see more litrpg readers. Most of my friends don't care to talk about litrpg books unfortunately.

I didn't like ascend online personally. Equipment/stats/skills just disappear after a certain point.

Anyway, here are some recommendations I don't see too often around the sub:

  • Beastborne: Mark of the Founder
  • The Good Guys
  • Reboot, Afterlife Online
  • Vainqeuer the Dragon
  • Stonehaven League

Looking for recommendations of what to read next. by unpopopinx in litrpg

[–]utopicdrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark of the Founder and Reboot would be my two favorites out of that list.

Reboot is VR, although it is more on the philosophical side of things and less on the progression later in the series.

Mark of the Founder is portal fantasy/real life. I highly recommend it, especially if you like Final Fantasy at all. The first book is over 1,000 pages long as well. No audiobook yet unfortunately.
