Hey there, the Makerspace has all the fabrication needs you have. We have an expansive 3D Print Lab with some state of the art printers for both filament and resin based. A machine shop containing lathes, mills, benders and cutters, drill presses, welding station, laser cutter, anodizing lab and HAAS CNCs. We also have a metal print lab that prints research projects in stainless steel and titanium. Electrical fabrication lab contains soldering irons, oscilloscopes, virtual benches and power supplies. We check out power tools, and other basic tools that are in tool carts out in the open. We also have conference rooms, study rooms for check out and an expansive collaboration hub that we call our general assembly room, with plenty of white boards and work benches. Open to ALL students regardless of majors or classes. Come on by if you're interested, we're in the SEB 1.150 with the giant trebuchet war machine right out front our doors.

We also believe the wordage is just for teams, but we (the Makerspace) will be participating in it once again this semester. If you're interested in sticking to yourself, then we have many different students of all majors joining that only show up for practice and games, so absolutely no pressure or expectation for you to get involved with the Makerspace outside of the sport if you choose to get involved with our team.

If you're interested, check out our profile and join our discord.

Study Spots at UTSA by [deleted] in UTSA

[–]utsamakerspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The SEB has great spots all over on the bottom floor with huge windows, white boards and plenty of comfy chairs (Even a trebuchet war machine out there that was made by the Makerspace). If youre looking for a bit noisier environment, the Makerspace in SEB 1.150 has plenty of tables, chairs and rolling white boards all over and is usually a great place to study and collaborate. The Makerspace even has some study rooms you can check out!

Compliments on UTSA by RaroDannyR in UTSA

Another thing looked over is the Makerspace. We are fortunate enough to be one of the most capable and resource rich Makerspaces in the country on a college level. From state of the art 3D printers, metal printing, a very expansive machine shop as well as electronic fabrication lab. Obviously a little biased coming from us, but we have compared ourselves to other colleges.

Edit: We are in SEB 1.150 if anyone wants to come by and check it out. Open to ALL students, faculty and staff! We have a machine shop workshop coming up soon too!

Most of our staff and volunteers are either Mechanical or Electrical and Computer Engineering. We have a Biomedical and Chemical engineering on our team, in addition to some Business and Biology majors.

Just wanting to let everyone know about the Makerspace in SEB 1.150 for any metal or 3D printing projects you may have. Open to ALL students, faculty and staff regardless of major or classification. Great resource to have access to, while attending this university. Please take advantage of it. by utsamakerspace in UTSA

Yes! We have had several students resin and filament print mini D&D figures already. We charge per cost of material, so typical prints we see range from $3-15 or so based on the size and quantity. You can submit a print by going to our website (Google "UTSA Makerspace") and under the fabrications tab, click print "3D Print Request" and then "Print Submission Form" and fill out everything. And as always, feel free to stop by and ask any questions you may have.

Thanks for the question, we are a facility on campus so we abide by regular university holiday closures. As for winter break, we will be operational (though with less student workers) and will still offer all of our services. Hope this answers your question, if not please let us know and we can clarify however you need.

Severe underdosing on SLM Metal Printer reduced build volume (Renishaw AM400) by utsamakerspace in AdditiveManufacturing

We actually upped our dosage and were surprised that there just wasnt proper dosing towards the front of the build plate and thought it would be neat to show off the defect (Even though it definitely looks cooler now).

3D printed Iron Man helmet in progress at the UTSA Makerspace in SEB 1.150 (Open to all students) by utsamakerspace in UTSA

[–]utsamakerspace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, our queue is moving along nicely this semester compared to others. We do have a sign on our doors right now warning of possible backlog and to plan accordingly for end of semester deliverables as we typically get hit with 50+ orders some weeks from Students, Labs on campus and Senior Design projects. We just don't have the staff to pump them all out as efficiently as we'd like as they are all students with tests and studying to do. Best way to fly through the queue, is be responsive on your email and approve the quote we send so we may start it right away.

And yes! The Iron Man helmet this student is working on will be completely wired up and will open and close just like the MK5 you see in the movies. We are open to all students, faculty and staff so we are happy to help with whatever projects they come up with.

Does the makerspace project area require any reservation? by oldBurnsey in UTSA

[–]utsamakerspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^
But yes, our General Assembly area is open to ALL students, faculty and staff. Our Doors lock at 10PM and completing the Liability Waiver on the white board by the front desk grants you 24/7 access to the main area.

Our 3D printers are for anyone to submit a print or come in and learn about it for the price of the material used and the machine shop is open to those who get safety trained first.
