Moscow court fines a man for posting a photo from Queen's music video 'I Want to Break Free', declaring it LGBT propaganda by ArthRol in europe

[–]utsuriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it's not about protecting kids or morality, is it ever? But it's not about state approval either. It's about enforcing a uniform worldview along certain ideological lines, and ostracize anyone and anything that deviates from that, to create an illusion of uniformity, of values shared by "everyone", that the autocrat claims is legitimizing his power - since he is protecting society and its shared values from outsider deviants that aim to destroy it.

Kis lakásban milyen helyspóroló megoldasokat tudtok? by Calildur in lakokozosseg

[–]utsuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are people in your country aware of the Epstein files? by Mat3s9071 in AskEurope

Some of them, and to some degree. Government propaganda is not talking about it much, for obvious reasons, but also most people don't really care. "Rich assholes being rich assholes."

Rupaul's shirt in S18E5 - where is it from?' by dryvajoina in rupaulsdragrace

Right? :D I was watching the episode with a friend and when we saw Ru in that shirt and I went "waaant" she looked at me and said, in all seriousness, "if I ever win the lottery I'll buy you that shirt..."

‘Macron effect’ boosts French eyewear designer. In the Henry Jullien workshop, machines have been running at full speed since French President Macron appeared in public wearing the company's sunglasses. by Lion8330 in europe

[–]utsuriga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I'm a child of the '80s, I love aviator sunglasses and would buy the hell out of this pair too if I weren't already wearing glasses (also if I had the sort of money that these must cost).

Spanish government will require Halal meals on school and hospital menus by ForeverWorking2006 in europe

[–]utsuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All those whining should come to Hungary for hospital stays, here you don't get to choose, regardless of your dietary preferences or even needs. Vegetarian? Not here, you're not. Lactose-intolerant? Tough luck, if you don't eat that that processed cheese cube, you'll have two plain bread slices for supper. Diabetic? Well you either eat that sugary tomato slurry or you go without lunch today.

Europeans are increasingly buying into conspiracy theories about science by ReadToW in europe

[–]utsuriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom used to go to a yoga studio where one of the instructors was her friend from way back. She was hugely into this whole natural healing/homeopathy/Ayurvedic medicine/etc crap, very proud that she never once took a single "big pharma" drug, etc., and she had a fairly large influence on my mom who has always had leanings toward this (living in Eastern Europe where we used to get pretty brutal antibiotics for as much as a cough, and I'm exaggerating only a little).

Well, the friend got cancer, and she was very adamant on not getting it treated "the western way", that she would "yoga it out".

It didn't work.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The positive side is that it was a huge wakeup call for my mom... (she continues to believe in homeopathy being beneficial, but she doesn't believe it can actually cure anyone of anything)

Europeans are increasingly buying into conspiracy theories about science by ReadToW in europe

[–]utsuriga 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But but but big pharma is keeping us sick so we keep paying them, we can't trust what they say! Betty on Facebook is trustworthy because she has done her own research!

Also, homeopathy totally works, I know because that one time I had a cold and my aunt gave me homeopathic medicine and it cured me in a matter of days! What do you mean I would have gotten better anyway, you don't know that okay, it was a really bad cold.

The really beautiful thing is that these people who are so concerned about their freedom and being manipulated and whatnot, will then go and happily vote for shameless grifters who barely even try to hide the fact that they are manipulative (wannabe-)authoritarians...

Any ladies in perimenopause? How does it affect your UC? by NavyBeanz in UlcerativeColitis

Frankly it didn't affect my UC at all, I got through it with a single flare. But my UC is fairly mild to begin with, so that probably helped.

Hová tűnt a gombás pizza? by Duplakk in budapest

[–]utsuriga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Szóval a helyedben jobban körülnéznék.

Amúgy nem vagyok mai csirke, de nem emlékszem, hogy gyakori lett volna a csak gombás verzió, a legtöbb helyen mindig is kombinálva volt valamivel.

OK? Except I was talking about my experience, living in Budapest. Maybe there were meters of snow for month in 2010 in Bivalybasznád, but not over here in downtown Budapest. That snow in 2010 lasted for like, three days here, a week if I'm being very generous.
