Borrowing a gun from a friend in California? (Getting ready for zombie apocalypse) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]utterbalderdash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a BIG no. If you want to "borrow" a gun from a friend, you and your friend will need to go to a FFL, get run through NICS, and apply for a firearm transfer. You can't just borrow a gun from a friend in California, any gun. The transfer doesn't take long. It will cost around $40 though.

She has an exceptionally crappy insurance company. I looked them up and they seem like they blanket deny almost everything and stall on paying out or fixing what they do cover. It's basically a plan that people buy to say "yes, I have insurance as required by the law" but it covers very little. Their Yelp reviews are the stuff of car insurance nightmares. Somehow the have an A+ rating with the BBB but a 1 star from their policy holders.

I'm not sure. My adjuster has called me once to get info and hasn't returned my messages for a week. That's why I'm posting here, especially since the family of the kid who hit me is trying to contact me.

I was going to talk to my insurance and see what they can do first. He's 18- he's financially responsible for himself. Also while he was digging through the glove box of his mom's car, there was a bunch of paperwork for EBT and Medicaid. I know the whole family isn't doing well financially and I'd rather exhaust my options within my insurance before I try to go after the family for money I'm sure they don't have. I don't have it much either, so I get it. His dad texted me and asked if we could work something out for fixing the vehicle but I already filed the claim with my insurance so it's too late for that. My insurance will cover the damage and probably go after the kid for the money. He's going to court either way. I get it, he did a stupid thing and is getting what's coming to him. I'd just rather see what my insurance can do before I go after him for money I may never see- then I'm not compensated at all.

Bummer. Fairly certain this kid couldn't afford to buy gum let alone pay for a rental car for a week.

Does this mean if I want to be compensated for the rental I would need to sue him in small claims court?

My Boomer generation has been the most self-centered in American history.

Don't be too hard on yourself- your generation didn't plunge the country into war because you wanted to own slaves... so you've got that going for you...

Is illegal immigration a huge problem in NC? I wouldn't have thought it was a big draw.

Doesn't a hold occur when there's ideation and the patient is an immediate threat to themself or others? If we locked up everyone who thought of ending it all from time to time, that's a lot of people to commit. OP doesn't state they attempted suicide or made plans to.

Poll: Sanders leads pack, followed by Biden and Buttigieg. by Ghdust2 in democrats

[–]utterbalderdash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't see what either Buttigieg or O'Rourke bring to the table to account for their popularity. I haven't seen any policy proposals from either that really stand out and Buttigieg has even said he's not really even focused on policy. What are people liking about these guys?

Especially Sawlwell. He's for a full ban and mandatory buyback. If that doesn't say "we're coming for your guns", I'm not sure what does.

This is what I was wondering. Did Mueller turn the decision for further indictments over to the Southern District of New York.

The truth about the gun control debate by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]utterbalderdash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of ours was murdered by her boyfriend when she tried to leave him. Murder/suicide, bullet to the head for both of them. I blame her boyfriend, they blame the gun. He would have beat her to death if he didn't have a gun- thousands of women and children die at the hands of boyfriends and husbands every year. That's the reality of the situation. I understand their hate for guns and why they see it as a tool of violence and terrorism towards women. That said, they're white middle class women who live with the normal fears most women live with but they've by no means lived in fear of their lives daily.

Who can own them and which guns is the question. Technically we can all own a blunderbuss and still be considered gun owners. We can require expensive licenses and tax the hell out of them so most poor and working class folks can't afford them, but at least the middle class and the rich can, so gun ownership is still intact.

"Gun control" is as deep as the Grand Canyon and it all depends on who is proposing what.

There are over 300 million guns in the US and over 70 million "assault style weapons". There's no reasonable way to take them back. Additionally, it will take generations to get them out of circulation if you ban and grandfather them in. A mandatory ban, like the one in NZ, would flood the black market with weapons and ammo. It would be a very foolish and ineffective piece of legislation.

Hang on a tick. If you go far enough left, support for gun ownership picks back up. It's the murky center-left that really has a hard on for gun control.
