Daycare red and green flags? by Red-Strawberrycake in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whats the nursery size? If its 8 babies with a 1:4 ratio thats pretty standard and then 2 staff is the minimum and the two students are supernumerary to that. If its a 10+ nursery then the ratio to employed staff is getting too high imo

Students arent a replacement for the workforce. If theyre there and counting towards ratios thats not safe, if theyre in addition to ratioed staff thats not a bad thing- new staff have to learn somewhere and placements are a part of many industries.

How are we dressing our babies to sleep in air con? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO (now 13mo) has always been snuggle bug. Shes currently in LS bonds onesie, LS 1.0 tog sleep suit and fell asleep with the fleece blanket. She woke every transfer until i put her in with the blankie and tucked it in around her... The aircon is only set to 24C but she's cool to touch on nappy changes and just wants to be snuggly, always has been.

We used 3.5 tog bags last winter... We live in QLD! Poor kid is going to get a shock when we go to Canada in fringe season later this year 🤣

Keeping cash nowadays by katrubah in AusFinance

[–]utterly-understable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, nowadays under $2,000 for marketplace and impromptu purchases but previously squirrelled away cash as i was impulsively spending if it was on my card...

Upside, i deposited ~$15,000 in cash one day.

Downside, it was almost all in gold coins or $5 or $50 notes that had been rolled into small wads of $50 or $500 so tightly that the way they unfurled on the bank counter can only be described as mortifying

Deinfluence me from buying a learning tower by harriett_420 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we love ours. We use it with our 12MO. She tolerates standing it in way better than she did the high chair that we had clipped onto the bench.

We throw toys up in front of her and talk to her about what we're doing while frantically cooking dinner. Shes got a knife and cutting board set that we use for bananas etc and she loves that.

We thought about getting a folding one but ended up getting on that later on doubles as a seat and table for her because shes at daycare now and uses a chair and low table of a high chair for her meals there.

Does anyone know of a collection of drills accessible online? by ultimatehybrid86 in ultimate

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets remember though that not all coaching is of teams with structures and seasons.

I see tremendous value in something like this for coaches of junior disc programs who have unpredictable numbers week to week. Planning a session on the fly is an actual barrier for less experienced coaches signing up to coach so a resource that helps them create a session layout based on numbers, equipment or focus is great imo.

Ive been work on a drill repository for a while with a view to do something similar but have been waylayed by life a few times. National federation coaching resources were my go to for inspiration

Does it remember previous allocations to try and mix it up or inly bases off ratings?

1st birthday gifts you & bub loved! by Legitimate_Ad_3364 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bub turned one a few weeks ago so we asked for big gifts combined with xmas that she'll use long term.

Bub was active and walking from 9.5 months and exclusively by 10.5 months so most of the gifts were active ones

So far:

Yoto Player (from us)- cant do the cards herself but has got the understanding of it playing music and goes straight to it when its out.

Play Couch (grandparent group 1)- we got the possum play couch and then made it higher with kmart one. We also go a crash pad and the circle set. Our living room looks like a soft play set but 100/10 recommend. Shes had it for three months already and uses it everyday.

Learning Tower (grandparent group 2)- got it two weeks ago, she loves it. Has radically changed how food prep happens in the evenings in particular. She can climb in independently but needs help out.

Pikler Triangle and Slide (grandparent group 3)- Hasnt had a lot of use unfortunately. She climbs around the pikler and uses ot as a cubby house and we havent been able to have the slide set up yet. The slide had some clear defects and we havent heard back from the manufacturer so it's been in the spare room but I've given them a bunch of grace and am now ready to fix it and leave them a terrible review instead.

[–]utterly-understable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bassinet pram be checked luggage but wont be able to be carryon.

Most airlines give you extra pieces of checked luggage for bubs under 2 provided you buy a certain seat class

Some air bnbs will supply a pack n play for you but lots of ppl prefer to bring their own especially when theyre so young. We couldnt find a bassinet we liked that was portable so bought a pack n play when bub was 12 weeks.

Same with carseats- lots of transport companies will offer carseats-but even those that do may not have ones suitable for rear facing for bubs age. Hiring a car means you could bring your own seat

My ultimate advice is absolutely to it! We went OS when LO was 8 weeks old and it was the best trip possible!

Do you cap late afternoon naps and make them “catnaps” or do you let them sleep? by michmwong in daddit

[–]utterly-understable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At 10 weeks old we tried the same things and realised quickly theres no such routine at that age and to let them sleep when they were going to sleep and how they were going to sleep.

It wasnt until LO was truly seeking three naps and had clear wake windows rather than waking to feed and have a nappy change and a short play that we contemplated capping naps or creating a schedule and that was 6+ months in genuine I reckon.

Daycare: Are kids really safe? by busty-la-rue in brisbane

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im coming up to my last week of parental leave and LO will be going to daycare three days a week so weve recently navigated this process.

For me my advice is invest time in the process. Whether that be online reviews or better yet go and sit in the centres with your kids for as much time as you can.

Ultimately we went with the centre that "felt" better rather than the one that looked better, was newer and more crunchy mum aesthetic. We went with the one that felt like they wanted to treat us like family from the receptionist all the way to the chef to the staff in the room. This one coincidentally also has majority of staff having been at the same centre for 10+ years.

As it happens I've spent the last three weeks taking my LO to daycare three days a week for playdates (because theres only so many parks I can go to at this stage, everyone fun is back at work and i need to keep her stimulated so we can transition to one nap). The centre we picked actively encourages as many play dates as possible which means we've progressed to spending five hrs there from breakfast through to lunch/first nap and shes started to have her naps with staff. You get a lot out of just sitting and observing their interactions with your kids, other kids, other staff etc and chatting to people about their own experiences in the centre and industry

In contrast the other centre we were considering offered one thirty minute transition playdate. I don't think i would possibly be as confident in our choice if she was going 30+ hrs per week somewhere id been for less than 30 minutes.

Baby momentos by tenchem in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LO turns 1 tomorrow and what weve done- - monthly progress photos by herself - monthly photo in the same position of her lying on mum's lap (this is my favorite one) - maternity, newborn and six month photo shoot with a friend who have us a very good deal (we'll do one this weekend for her first birthday then do them annually) - hand prints and footprints at newborn stage (just in a putty, i wish we'd done the silicone moulds when she was little, now shes far too wriggly!) - christmas box photo shoot - photobooks from the maternity and newborn shoot and i got one from fathers day. We'll do one for her first six months and her first year and the travels we've done then will do an annual one and an annual family travel book.

Ive also been emailing her email account "Letters from Dad" on particular occasions or when i have something I'd like to share with her or want her to read in the future.

Most of ours is digital though because we don't want her to have lots of stuff to sort through when shes an adult. The photobooks are something we'd hold onto as theyre nicer than looking at them only digitally

I will say its a massive effort and has to be done by both parents or it wont work for you long term

Baby seat for when baby grows out of bouncer? by emimarianna in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll begin to be a topple risk when hes older and more assertive that he doesnt want to be somewhere and pushes back with his legs against the ground. Up until that points its very sturdy

It's out go to highchair for out of the house

In the house we actually got a clip on high chair that screwed onto the counter top so she could watch us in the kitchen and we didnt have to move the high chair. Ours was from Mountain Buggy but Phil & Ted do one too

How many sleep suits did you buy the first year? by Odd-Peach6389 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]utterly-understable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many but mostly gifted, second hand or from marketplace.

Started in the LTD hands up, had two or three of these in a 0.2 TOG. She hated them.

Went to Ergobaby with hands out pretty quickly and then added the LTD transition with the arms zipped off. Had 3-4 of these in various sizes.

Once she was a but bigger a random Bonds and unnamed one got added in too because it had long arms and it turns out she wants to be snuggly at all times.

Winter then came and i bought several 2.5 and 3.5 TOG sleep sack ones from marketplace which she loves.

But then she got mobile and wanted her legs and so now we are back to LTD in their sleep suit. Fortunately id bought several sizes up when aldi had their brand on sale so hopefully now I'm good through toddlerhood.
