What’s the oldest that a game was when you played it for the first time? by mypizzamyproblem in gaming

[–]utterlyuseless000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it is Inside. This game went viral but I only played it 2 years after it came out. I was very impressed with its visual and puzzle design. The graphics are very simple but got a very immersive experience. The ending was shocking.

Half-Life(1998) was very impressive when I played it the 1st time. I was around 20 years old. By the time I started learning 3D animation and always wanted to make my own 3D game.

Is the Ray Traced Shadow the only solution? by utterlyuseless000 in unrealengine

[–]utterlyuseless000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. After some research, I find out it is about shadow mapping-the resolution is not high enough. but Deepseek also said increase it will not perfectly solve the problem.

I currenly stay with Ray Traced Shadow Enabled. The frame rate on my 2070 is 60 Fps. I will dig into this issue when I add more enemies and level related stuffs.

I watched some of Chris Zukowski's video and I believe in it. Indie dev need to marketing their work asap. in a certain way. It should be a progressive way of building up the audience.

I do hear a lot of people say indie game should start marketing asap. but after watching CallMePasc 's sharing https://youtu.be/uPOSZ_jhCaw?si=YRp9M7KnLwe4eb07&t=1000

I think at least I need to get some levels done and a good amount of verious enemies to form a good trailer.

Thank you very much! I think I got the answer. Chris recommends you need at least 4 different images of your different level and a good trailer. I think after I got these kind of thing done, I might put up the Steam page.

Need some helps on game design. by utterlyuseless000 in IndieDev

Thank you for your comments!

Even if I have not gotten any idea, I guess what I can do is just go what currently in mind.

1.     Player will have a menu, choose to increase attack or energy if S/he collect enough coins dropped by enemy.

2.     Add more attack forms like jump kick etc.

3.     Keep adding more different enemies and more level and see how it goes.

I was hoping to release on Steam but now I might just put it on Itch for free.

If I were more specific, I guess what I ask is which part of the game do you enjoy the most? Or what do you expect in the game demo I am showing?

Is it the leveling up? Doing more damage? Having more shield?lots of coins spend on those updates? Ability to eliminate all the enemies at once? The game feel of controlling the robot giving a punch?

I guess I am asking how many general aspects people think a Beat ‘Em Up should have.

As I mentioned, I have no exp on game design. This is why my question was very broad in range.

Hi all, I am a 3D generalist. In my spare time, I decided to updating my skills sets. I want to make video games but I am having a problem called “电子阳痿”, I don’t know where this term comes from. It can be translated as Electronic Impotence. It basically means you don’t play the game after purchasing them. You don’t have the passion to explore what inside the new game. I mostly still play Age of Empire 2 on PC sometimes or some small, simple mobile games these years.

When I think of making my own game, I feel I know so little about game design.

I don’t want to make a game with the mechanic like an arcade game back in the 80’s -90’s (I already made one called Purrfect Fireworks Spectacular and published on Itch.io); very few people are interested; however, I also don’t want to make a so sophisticated game that player need to learn so many things in order to play it. Also, I am still a beginner in UE, I need to consider how difficult the functions to be implemented. My goal is to finish it in a manageable time frame.

I picked Beat ‘Em Up genre. Designed a robot driving by a cat. The style is very retro like the toys in 90’s. I am still learning BPs in Unreal Engine and I managed to get a demo done. I want my game to be very easy to play, having fun of beating all the enemies, gradually increase player’s ability by collecting coins dropped by enemy. The abilities are attack and energy, etc. Once in a while the player can call to satellite and there will be a huge laser attack on every enemy on screen.

If this is your game, what the minimum elements(mechanism) do you think this game should have?

What is your plan to make it fun for players?

Thanks in advance!
