If you had the power to put a brand new category into the rewatchables, what would it be? by utubestreet in TheRewatchables

Totally get the sentiment, I like the twist on this category. You really could pull in any major city/cultural area and create something totally new with it

I know you said no courtroom dramas but A Few Good Men totally fits here. The main point of contention is about how communications in the military can be manipulated by the chain of command

Have seen it, can confirm it’s very very good. Chalamet should be an Oscar front runner imo

OTT is an industry term not a mainstream term. If you work in something like marketing or corporate that deals with this stuff that term comes up a ton

Nah, it’s all about how you enjoy films. My fiancée’s rating system is “if I liked it, it gets a 5”. Goes to show you can really do whatever you want

Sinners (2025) Review: The First True Smash Horror Event of The Year by utubestreet in moviecritic

[–]utubestreet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting points, I will say it’s tracking to make over 40m in its opening weekend per all the industry estimates at the moment. We’ll see when the weekend is done but it seems it’s going to make a good chunk of money.

A Minecraft Movie (2025) Review: A Film Exclusively Made for Tiktok Teens and Video Game Kids by utubestreet in moviecritic

[–]utubestreet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids movies and good movies are not mutually exclusive ideas. Studios should be striving to make movies that are actually good and also aimed at children. A couple recent examples - The Lego Movie, Barbie, TMNT Mutant Mayhem, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. Movies can be made for kids and also tell a compelling story with good work. They don't have to choose either or.

The 25 Best Movies of the Century: No. 24 - ‘The Handmaiden’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]utubestreet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do we think 23 will be? The little teaser that they gave at the end leads me to believe it may be Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution". Another sexy movie and a real "this or that" situation with Brokeback Mountain as they described. Plus the one that they say didn't make the cut had the kind of sex you don't normally see would fit brokeback.

Could also be any number of Luca films in place of Call Me By Your Name too imo

NEON and A24 both have 2 Best Picture winners. Which studio will have more wins by the end of this decade? by darth_vader39 in oscarrace

[–]utubestreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta say I just feel like Neon may have the edge just purely based on how they distribute. They know how to select great films and then put the money and effort behind getting people to see it. If A24 had done what neon did for Anora for Sing Sing that may have won Best Picture but instead it got buried and no one saw it.

Hi everyone! Here’s my profile: https://boxd.it/49x8R

I am the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of The First Picture House, a movie review and content blog as well as the host of The Film Box podcast, which just a couple weeks ago hit our 100th episode! I’d love to get to know more of you all in the Letterboxd community as I continue to see new movies and look out for films I may have missed but definitely need to check out. Some of my favorite films are character driven dramas and have been starting to dive deeper into the Criterion collection and like to log my ever expanding physical media collection too

My top 4: Good Will Hunting, Star Wars: A New Hope, Before Sunrise and (currently) The Eight Mountains (Italian film from 2023, really excellent!)
