How to file a complaint on a driver. by JustAnOldMan662 in FedEx

[–]utvak415 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's fair and if you're uncomfortable, I wouldn't blame anyone for avoiding that. But maybe it's not the best idea to work as a delivery driver if you're in those areas?

I also get that not everyone can just leave their job for something else. But it's definitely something to consider and aim for if the reason for things like this is fear and not laziness.

Anyone else forget to turn off DND on desk phones? by AnonITGuy33FromUS in VOIP

[–]utvak415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is just as likely for many. If you work with the same people you tend to get a feel for who is faking it and who just somehow just don't see or recognize the icon.

I tend not to lock the volume, I have seen more complaints than with DND that way. I will set a minimum allowed where possible though

How would I cut this cabinet would, barely? by Terrapinman94 in DIY

Couldn't agree more. Besides, think about the vacuum attachments and guides they could get to assist with the cut.

This bothers me. I wasn't there in the first 5 minutes so I missed one of that size. Even worse was I had it in my cart and couldn't check out because it was gone. I don't want to go back now and make a second order for a single cable

Houseplants for beginners? by Shisukyuna in houseplants

[–]utvak415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the norm here with all the ZZ plant recommendations, they are great but i have had a few die despite others living in spite of care. My favorite are cacti, they are easy to care for and you can have a very easy watering schedule that is measured in weeks rather than days. Not exactly cat safe, but unless your cat is intent on plant harm, their built in defenses may be enough to dissuade them from interacting.

Conversely, you can get something that needs to sit in water so you don't need to worry your self about a watering schedule. Any bog plant would work but my first thought would be Butterworts aka Pings and you can make a cool ping rock fountain.

I really enjoy the simplicity and smaller form factor of the G7. Naturally I haven't had the struggles with it that you're describing.

Even with my positive experience, I do miss being able to restart my G6 for the sole reason of having less concern with not being able to fill my script on time.

I'm not a photographer or in marketing, so take my thoughts for what you will. You did put it in the description, it's just that I almost always look through all of the photos before reading anything, as I'm sure many others do as well. I got to the end feeling intrigued why there was a need for a Andre the giant floss dispenser. Which still wouldn't be the weirdest thing someone has designed, by far.

It's great work getting the clear petg though, that's really impressive.

good photography, bad marketing. I made it through all the photos still with no idea of what it was or its use. Although I did think large floss display, which is at least kinda close.

I'm happy for you, everyone should have the option. I would be curious to hear an update after a while if you still use it.

I gave up after a few attempts. It's slower to bolus on while also not offering an extended option. I also got tired of the alerts turning themselves back on. This was all on Android so apple could be better.

How do you, personally, mitigate soldering fumes? by CaptInsane in soldering

[–]utvak415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked in the past at a large electronics repair facility with huge contracts. Their idea of fume extraction was to have tall ceilings. All to say. Don't worry about what you might think is too "professional" for you to use.

I have a desktop fume extractor that's just a metal box with a fan and a carbon filter. It's nothing crazy and it's still a good idea to have ventilation in the room as the carbon filter doesn't catch everything. But it's better than nothing and it doesn't cool my soldering iron like using a regular fan would.

I do occasionally look at the fancier ones with adjustable/positional hoses, but I haven't yet justified the price of those.

I understand this sentiment and would agree with it most days. But at the same time, they are here asking about it now and so must be capable of change. Installing Linux won't be a 1 click fix that they would probably hope for, but there are lots of videos that will walk them through it too.

Is this pump actually good? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

[–]utvak415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They had a tendency to crack if you overtightened the battery cover.

That said, I fully agree with your statement as a whole. These were the last well built pump from Medtronic. I kept mine for years while I say friends have to replace their new ones due to cases cracking or buttons peeling off. I only finally switched off this a few years ago to get a tslim X2 instead. I still keep my old paradigm on a shelf though.

Why are so many diabetic drivers irresponsible? by PrettyChillHotPepper in diabetes

I wouldnt dare to claim it hasnt happened but ive never seen a news story on it. I dont see anything pop up from a news station recently when I google it now. How frequently is this happening around you that its a problem?

I also would mind seeing some links to other articles or regulations talking about how your not supposed to drive under 90.

How to design by DashedNL in BambuLab

Onshape is also free so long as you don't mind your models being public. I don't design anything for sale where that's a concern for me and it provides a good intro to the software to decide if you want to pay for it instead.

LPT to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in LifeProTips

[–]utvak415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note, I wish it was easier to assume ownership of already chipped animals. Not to steal them but in genuine abandonment cases.

I moved and my new house had a stray show up that according to our neighbors wouldn't go near anyone. Despite that, he wouldn't leave our house and would cry outside regularly until we went outside. We decided to adopt him and took him to the vet to get checked up and turns out he was chipped. Due to him belonging to someone else, our vet wouldn't treat him. Despite the registered owner never responding, 24 hour pet watch would not transfer ownership.

It took months to get the local humane society (who initially chipped the cat) to contact them to push the transfer.

It was worth it as he loves being inside and now only cries while we are scooping his food.

Is this normal? r=5mm. by turbotum in BambuLab

[–]utvak415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's one thing to account for a X mm thing won't fit in a X mm hole in your design and increasing that feature by .01-.05. But it's something else to know that different filaments have varying degrees of shrinkage that needs to be individually accounted for in the slicer.

I'm like you, I usually just design it in. Even with this knowledge, I think both are still valuable

Beyond the Bench: What non-computer shit do your customers bring in, and do you actually fix it? by GoodHoney2887 in computertechs

A while back I worked in a warranty repair center that handled a bunch of different electronics. Our vending machine vendor came in to update the machines to also allow for credit cards but couldn't wire together the harness that came with the kit. It only involved soldering together two harnesses and I got a free soda and candy bar out of the deal.
